Ephedra: Xenadrine subject of more lawsuits

March 12th, 2003 · 78 Comments

Cytodyne Technologies, maker of the dietary supplement Xenadrine, faces lawsuits from eight California counties and one city, who accuse the company of false and misleading advertising that does not mention possible health risks associated with ephedra. The counties are seeking restitution for California customers and civil penalities.

“There is a known association between ephedra products and very serious health problems,” San Francisco Deputy District Attorney Michael Hudson said. “People don’t realize that just because it’s natural, that doesn’t make it safe. Tobacco is natural.”

The company defended Xenadrine and said prosecutors are trying to take advantage of publicity surrounding ephedra.

“Cytodyne Technologies confidently stands behind the efficacy of its products and the truthfulness of our advertising claims,” company chief executive Bob Chinery said in statement. “It’s not a coincidence that at this time the prosecutors have decided to file these allegations, given the current sensationalized climate surrounding ephedra.”

On Feb. 28, the Food and Drug Administration proposed a warning label for all ephedra-containing dietary supplements. The proposed label warns about the risks of serious adverse events, including heart attack, seizure, stroke, and death; cautions that the risk can increase with the dose, with strenuous exercise, and with other stimulants such as caffeine.

Is there a current lawsuit in Alabama for the use of Xenadrine, and if so, how does one get in on the lawsuit if they have used this product for several years?

  • Casey Roberts // May 6, 2003 at 6:53 am

I took ephedra products for two years and it caused me to have an irregular heartbeat, which I had to go to the emergency room for. Is there a lawsuit in Oklahoma for dissatisfied customers like myself?

  • chris // Jun 4, 2003 at 4:26 pm

people have to realize that there is a small portion of problems with ephedra than the people that benifeted from it. doctors perscibe drugs all the time and they kill people so they say its only for certain people so why cant the companies just say that you use at your own risk.

  • Jennifer // Jun 5, 2003 at 10:51 am

I just today purchased Xenadrine and then my husband told me about some lawsuit. I see the one in March is related to ephedrine, and this formula doesn’t have ephedrine or ephedrine lelated ingredients. Should I return the bottle or try it out? We took Hydroxycut before w/out problems. Any tips?

I think the people who are trying to sue this company for makeing an excellent product are sick. I would be worried about the heart disease, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes that is rampant in this country. The legal system is not the lotto. Attorneys are pond scum to be reviled not revered. Now as America becomes even fatter, we will only have ourselves to blame. People get a life. Get off your asses and workout. Stop worrying about the legal lotto.

I too have been hopitalized twice from taking xenadrine and am currently taking heart medication for the rest of my life. Is there any lawsuits in the state of NC for myself?

I took Xenadrine EFX for a couple of months and ended up in the emergency room with a very high blood pressure and my heart was racing. My doctor told me it was because of Xenadrine. Do you know of any cases against this kind of Xenadrine? I think I should at least be able to get back the money paid to the hospital as I had to stay in the hospital all day for them to make sure I did not have a heart attack. I am also on blood pressure medicine now because of this and have never had problems with blood pressure before. I am from Iowa

Last year, I had been taking Xenadrine for 3-4 days and was taken to the hospital and kept for 4 days. The first night and the majority of the second day, I was in ICU. My kidneys almost failed and had I been even hours later getting to the hospital, I would probably not be posting this message right now. I strongly believe that this product should NOT be used, no matter what success stories may be out there. Yes I did lose weight because of Xenadrine, only because of being hospitalized. But the thing is, I almost lost my life as well.

  • stacy // Oct 30, 2003 at 7:14 am

I just ordered Xenadrine the one that does not contain ephedrine. I just wanted to know is it safe?

  • SARA // Nov 3, 2003 at 5:31 am

I use to take ripped fuel, and metabolife and I never had any problems with these, when I decited to take xenadrine, after 2 days taking the recommended dosage I almost had a heart attack and had to be rushed to the hospital, ever since I went to the hospital I had to stop drinking caffenie cause my heart will race to the point where I almost pass out! I am afraid it has done damage to my heart! I would recommend that NOONE take this diet pill… I took the ephedra free. and still had problems!

my sister-in-law just experienced a series of strokes after taking the epherine free xenadrine. Shes thrity three and has two children under five. this is not a safe product.the ingredient bitter orange is a similar stimulant and wedMD warnes against this product. see the article at http://my.webmd.com/content/Article/59/66803.htm

  • Robyn Reports // Dec 15, 2003 at 12:26 pm

I took Ripped Fuel for about a month, following the dosage recommended on the back label. I was rushed to the hospital, my heart was pulpitating, I was dizzy and weak, I thought I was going to die.

Now I can’t take antihistamines or sometimes even coffee. I live in Toronto Ontario, if anyone knows of a lawsuite in this area please let me know.

  • Thomas // Dec 31, 2003 at 9:48 am

I took probably almost every kind of ephedrine prodct out there, now six months after stopping after taking it for two years, I have to take six pills a day for the rest of my life to make sure I don’t have a heart attack. I am only 22 and now I have high blood pressure and constantly at the verge of dying everyday , doctors say because of the ephedrine. If anyone knows of any lawsuit I can participate in, in California please email me.

    tscgloudey@netzero.net

Ps now that it is banned in California, there are still places that sell the ephendrine, the ban doesn’t really work.

  • Sick-of-it // Jan 3, 2004 at 3:54 pm

I am totally sick of everyone jumping on the bandwagon. I have taken Xenadrin and other ephedra-based products since they came out several years ago, and I have had no side effects - in fact I have had my blood pressure checked and it was only occasionally slightly over normal. The fact is the Rand Corporation has done, recently, a review of 50 studies about ephedra consumption and only found a handful of people who had symtoms directly related to taking ephedra, and those who had bona fide adverse reactions had preceeding health problems. For those of you who say that you did not have any health problems prior to taking the ephedra products most likely did not know you had health problems. Furthermore, I wonder how many of you took half the recommended dosage (as is clearly instructed on the label) the first few weeks of use or were you so anxious to use the product that you figured it didn’t matter. Lastly, I am sure that many of you did not consult a physician prior to using ephedra to see if you had any preceeding medical conditions.

  • Patty // Jan 14, 2004 at 7:06 am

I too have taken ephedrine products for two to four yrs. I have taken thermodrene, yellow jackets, yellow swarmers and a few others. I felt fine and had no side affects. I’d say in the last six months, I have had irregular heart palpitations. At first occasionally and in the last two months, more frequent. I then noticed that I was having difficulty remember things - example - I am a big history buff and now when I read, I can’t recall dates and names, etc. I also have a problem with nervousness. I get extremely nervous over everyday things, I have a problem with being VERY over nervous around people which in result has led to a very isolated life and a one income family of six trying to make ends meet because it is so bad I have a problem being around people. I am also unhappy and depressed and very irritable A LOT of the time. At first when it was only every so often, that the palpitations would occur, I ignored it. I had the energy I wanted and actually believed I could not and would not have energy after stopping. I have been reading up on ephedrine and am now terrified with all of the side affects I have read about. So much so that I will not take anything to give me energy EVER again, besides coffee (and at that not over doing it) The benefits do not out wiegh the fear. I sit here and worry and hope that it will be ok and the palpitations stop. But I read about it causing palpitations that led to death and permanent heart damage. Of course, as I said, we are a one income family TRYING to make ends meet, so I don’t have money to go to a doctor. Has anyone else had these problems and if so, did they cause permanent damage or temporary? Please e-mail me at pattybhunter@yahoo.com

  • Jess // Jan 26, 2004 at 8:28 am

Does you idiots not know you are not supposed to take diet pills for a couple of years. Follow the instructions and you will have no problems. If anything the companies should sue you for not following the instructions. If any of you win it will be the end of sanity within our court system forever. These cases are like the McDonald-coffee cases. Get a life, exercise, and eat right without diet pills and you will e just fine.

  • David // Feb 1, 2004 at 3:41 pm

In 1998 I purchased and used as directed a product called “Thermobolics 2000″. After only 36 days of using this product, I began to have heart-pulpitations, sweating, anxiety and nervouseness. I discontinued the product immediately after noticing the side-effects, but it appears the damage was permanent. I battled anxiety and heart irregularity for 2 years before my personal physician found the right mix of heart medication and anti-anxiety medication to gain back my health the way it use to be! I will regret taking any weight-loss product for the rest of my life! Attempts to find out what was in this product proved unsuccessful as I was stone-walled by customer relation folks within the company. To this day my life will never be the same again. If anybody knows of a good law firm who will take on a case such as this, you may contact me. My advice to anyone, please do more healthy things to lose weight such as diet and exercise then looking for that miracle pill that simply isn’t out there!

    Regretably,

    David (Southern California)

I just started taking Stackers 3 about a month ago, and I seem to have lost some weight. I do wake up with heart palpitations now and then but eating too much sweet shit is what always causes that for me, I disbelieve it has to do with the Stackers, because if my sweet tooth gets bad and I munch too much chocolate or something, then I get extremely drowsy and have to nap, and this was around before I started on the Stackers, so I believe they may be two separate things: that the palpitations are caused by too much consumption of refined sugar.

In 1196 I used Mini Thins to lose about 65 pounds. I wanted to stop losing weight at 115lbs and could not. Shortly after I discontinued using it I became prgnant. It was then that I learned that I had a heart murmur. Eight years later I am overweight again and recently bought Hydroxy Cut. I learned from experience though that the pills will make you feel like you don’t need to eat. Eat anyway because your body will began to feed off of it’s own organs. Also don’t take the total recommended amount. If I had a better metabolism though I wouldn’t take them at all.

    Sincerely,

    Dying to be thin

  • Rox in CA // Mar 16, 2004 at 2:10 pm

I too have taken Metabolite for 4 years and tried Maxadrine, ( a substitute for exenidrene). The Metabolite, I did not experience a noticible problem at the time. But with the Maxadrene which has caffine, I have all the sudden had high blood pressure, (189/79), along with anxiety attacks, feeling like I’m having a stroke or heart attack. I also have all the pain, discomfort, insomnia, and feeling like I am going to die. If you ask me if loosing 20 pounds was worth these tormented, aganizing & sleepless nights feeling like you are going to die. Well I would beg to differ. I have 3 children and I would like to be around for them for a long time, I mean I’m only 35 years old to feel this way. You will need to see your doctor if you start experiencing anxiety after taking emphedra based products. Also the mixture of caffine, makes it a deadly combo. The doctor advises me I will need to take some med’s to calm me down to bring down my rapid heart beat, which I hope will work. Be here to stick around for your family, because I sure do!

  • adam // Mar 25, 2004 at 7:49 pm

i took xenadrine for 1 week then switched to hydroxycut for one month. i took the recommended dosage of 4 pills 3 times daily right from the start. i discontinued use after 1 month because of severe sharp pains in my liver area. followed by chest pains like an elephant on my chest. now i get sharp shooting pains to the heart. i was diagnosed with mvp. i am scared of my future now, i am only 21. i plan on suing these companys for every penny of damage that has been done. they should face severe penaltys for destroying the lives of so many. i also suffer with anxiety, loss of breath, heart palpitations and i have really abnormal sleep disturbances. example: waking up choking and night terrors where i wake up screaming. if anyone knows of a lawsuit against ephedra products in louisiana please contact me. has anyone else suffered from these sleep symptoms?

  • Elvira // Apr 1, 2004 at 6:17 am

I’ve taken Xenadrine EFX when it came out…I found this product to have been the best product out there for weight loss..I had so much energy, my appetite had decreased as well as sweet cravings, I felt more alert, vibrant..I followed exactly what the recommended dosage said to take. But, I made sure I wasn’t drinking coffee, nor soda or diet soda, wasn’t drinking and I don’t smoke..I stopped eating junk food, cut down on fatty stuff…and I FELT GREAT. I lost 50lbs…and now..now that a bunch of whimpy overweight people who don’t get off their asses to begin with to exercise, think a magic pill will reverse the damage they did to themselves, continue eating the way they were while taking the pill now claim it’s the pill that gave them heart attacks, or heart palpatations..hello, you’re suppose to exercise while taking this stuff..your heart is suppose to be pumping, to give you energy, to make you sweat…it won’t work if you take it and sit on your fat ass…because of a few bad apples, they had to stop a great product..I’ve tried a few…Trimspa, PatentLean, Hydroxycut, Thermogen, Xenadrine EFX, Metabolife, Lipodrene..I’ve tried them..and nothing, and I mean nothing made feel the way I did as Xenadrine RFX did..whatever is in this product is the best combo ever around..and that is that!

  • Joy // Apr 12, 2004 at 3:38 pm

It seems to me, that being overweight is far more dangerous than taking Ephedrine. I lost a lot of weight off of Ephdra based products in the past. I think that anybody who has problems, either had the problems before, or they are not taking the recommended amount, and are trying to get “high” off of these supplements. Because of you morons, the rest of us have to suffer, because now they are taking these off the market. “Thanks a lot morons”

  • nicole // Apr 23, 2004 at 7:42 am

All of you who claim that ephedra products like Xenadrine are safe need to do some research and review case studys before making any uneducated comments. Ephedra is dangerous, it can cause the blood pressure to sky rocket, even in perfectly heathy people with normal blood pressure. The sudden extreme increase in blood pressure then causes a stroke. Ephedra can also cause damage to the heart valves. It causes too much stress on a healthy heart and bring on a heart attack. Cases of heart attack, stroke, panic attacks, seizures and even death have occured in healthy people even when used in SMALL DOSES! I am a Cardiology Nurse at Mass. General Hospital. No matter how healthy you are, if you take ephedra it is like playing Russian Roulet. Why risk your life to lose a few pounds? The only safe and effective way to lose weight is to eat healthy and get plenty of excercise. There is NO MAGIC PILL when it comes to weight loss.

  • Dolores // Apr 23, 2004 at 9:31 am

My mother age 56 has taken the Xenadrine ephedra free formula for about 8 weeks and says she feels great and has lost about 18 lbs (She’s about 20 lbs. from her goal). She has been checked by her general practicioner several times and says all is well,

ie, heartbeat, pressure etc… I on the other hand have about 120 lbs. to get rid of and am wanting to also take the ephedra free formula (and exercise of course), however was wondering if anyone besides the two postings have had any adverse reactions to the Xenadrine Ephedra free formula?

MANT TRIPS TO THE HOSPITAL WITH FAINT FEELINGS AND NUMB HANDS. ONCE THAT WENT AWAY I WAS HAVING SLEEPING PROBLEMS BUT THE WORST WAS I WAS ALWAYS DIZZY FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS. NOW 3 YEARS LATER IM USING XENADRINE EFX (EPHEDRINE FREE) FOR 6 MONTHS NOW AND NO PROBLEMS BUT NOW THAT IVE REACHED MY GOAL WITH EXERCISE!! I WANT TO STOP TAKING IT BUT IM SCARED TO DEATH OF WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAD ANY SIDE AFFECTS AFTER QUITTING XENADRINE EFX OTHER THAN FEELING TIRED???

Has anyone ever thought about suing or complaining about GNC? I’m 22 right now, but when I was 13 years old, the salesman (gnc sales clerks work off commission), sold me ripped fuel. I went three bottles of it, before I noticed tremors in my stomach. After I stopped using it, I watched a special about how people died from using it.

Anyways, I feel lucky that I stopped using it when I did, but I still feel that the GNC people are untrustworthy.

  • Truth Man // Jun 28, 2004 at 2:22 am

You people have got to be the biggest group of idiots ever. How many of you were fat slobs with stressed hearts and high BP before using ephedra? How many abused the hell out of it looking for quick weight loss? Your probably the same idiots that eat at McDonalds 3 times a day. What a bunch of stupid morons. Try exercise and proper diets instead of eating sugar garbage and sitting on your fat asses all day.

  • Becky // Jun 30, 2004 at 2:39 pm

I’ve taken these products on and off for years. Never had too many problems. I realized the potential for problems *before* taking them. It’s my own responsibility and fault if something happens. There are warning labels on the bottles.

  • skinny minny // Jul 5, 2004 at 9:26 am

I have been using ephedra for years and have not had any negative side effects. I was aware of the warnings and possible side effects before I started using the products-it is listed on the bottle. I cannot believe how many people run out to buy the newest weight loss supplement and then get upset because it dosen’t work. Everyone wants to eat everything they want while sitting on their rearends and hope that these pills will work. Then they get upset because they didn’t lose the twenty pounds in two days. Diet and exercise are still the key. Maybe if everyone spent as much time exercising and planning meals as they do on researching how to sue ephedra manufactures, and others like them, they wouldn’t be so fat. It is pathetic how many people want to blame these companies for their health issues. Did you not know that being fat was putting pressure on your heart. High blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, these are all POSSIBLE side effects of ephedra, yes, but they are INEVIDABLE with obesity . It is your fault that you are fat. It is your fault that you do not read bottles completely before purchasing/using them. It is about time people start taking resposibility for themselves. It is not the fast food industries fault that you overeat their value meals everyday; it is not the weight loss supplement companies fault that your weight has caused high blood pressure, heart attacks, etc.; it is not the sales clerks fault that they sold you products that you came in looking for. You are to blame for letting your weight get so out of control. Take responsibility.

  • Johnny Bravo // Jul 6, 2004 at 11:15 pm

I think the best thing for you stinking, fat, overweight, worthless, piece of crap, lazy, waste of space slobs to do is shut the hell up with all your BS and start moving your fat asses. I get so sick of seeing stupid out of shape idiots crying about being fat. It took you years to become a fat slob. Why shouldnt it take years to trim down? You fat people make me sick with your quick fix drugs, surgeries, etc. Then when things dont go right, its about who can you sue. Its your fault you have high BP, bad heart, bone spurs, whatever because you are stressing your body with your huge bulk. Maybe you should live in the ocean with the rest of the whales. You people are not even human. You are freaks.

  • Rebecca Warren // Jul 14, 2004 at 4:31 pm

I have used Metolife with ephedra on and off for years I am an adult who can legally go buy cigarettes ( I don’t smoke) abnd I can legally buy liquor. Both are very much worse for your body not to mention others around you. Why then am I not able to make an informed choice on a diet product.

  • Jen // Jul 18, 2004 at 9:36 pm

I’ve been taking Stacker 2 ephedra free for only 5 days or so and I have already had disturbing side effects. I have heaviness in my chest, severely trembling hands, insomnia, blurry vision and dreams that were more like hallucinations. And I’m not even taking the ephedra version. However, I have lost weight and have absolutely no appetite while taking this drug, which is the only reason I will continue to take this if I still do. I am going to talk to my doctor tomorrow and discuss the risks to my health. To the people who are 100% in support of ephedra products and are calling victims of these drugs “lazy fat-asses” need to shut their mouths. Anyone who has had adverse reactions to ephedra has every right to be compensated for their suffering. The people with postings full of name calling and fat jokes should take a look at the evidence- these drugs are not evaluated by the FDA and there is not enough empirical evidence and studies for anyone to be completely certain this drug is safe. Everyone buying these products are taking a risk. Some name-callers and know-it-alls who post need to think before they speak.

  • Danielle // Jul 20, 2004 at 5:54 am

I am most upset that they stopped selling dietary aids containing ephedra. I have used Stacker 2 off and on over the past 2 years, strictly following a good diet with exercise. I also followed the directions on the bottle about the dialy consumtion of these pills. I am as healthy as can be, I lost all the weight I needed to and I am fine. However, because of some stupid people out there who think they can have 2-3 pills, 4x a day or whatever they were taking would be a quick fix to not even their weight problems. They took it for a quick fix on energy! Now becuase of their stupidity, something that actually worked (if followed properly) is no longer. Thanks alot!

  • Mr. Fitness // Jul 24, 2004 at 3:56 pm

Hey, I have an idea. Why dont all you stinking, stupid, lazy fat slobs, eat healthy and exercise. Who says you need a pill to get in shape. Try less TV and fast food. Try more exercise. You people are idiots. Everything is someone else’s fault. You are the one that ate garbage loaded with sugar and refuse to exercise so you get what you asked for. Fat stinking slobs like you should quit complaining and start living healthy. If not, then shut the hell up and have a heart attack already. Regards, Mr. Fitness.

  • Beach Dude // Jul 24, 2004 at 4:02 pm

I agree with Mr. Fitness. Fat people are lazy and want the easy way out. Noe they want us to pay for their surgery and rugs to lose weight. So, let me get this straight. You eat junk food, smoke, drink, don’t exercise your whole life and become a human pig. You then expect the governemt (taxpayers) to pay for your surgery and drugs to correct the problems you caused. Scum like you are a burden on the rest of us who choose to take care of ourselves. You get no sympathy from me. Go have another twinkie and think about it.

  • Jason // Sep 17, 2004 at 2:12 pm

I took “Extra Strenght Guarana” which had ephedra in it for about a year in high school to stay awake. After that I started taking “Up Your Gas”. I was on it for four years and I worked up to taking FIVE every morning for the last two years (started with two a day - which was the maximum dosage a day).

I eventually kicked the habit - I took the drugs because I couldn’t stay awake because I work at a computer all day. However, now I notice that I do have some heart problems and irregular heart beat at times. Sometimes after working out or even just walking I will get a rapid heartbeat, a long pause, and then it will return to normal but it happens even during regular activity as well. My heart “feels” weak.

This stuff WILL cause damage to you if it’s taken for a long period of time, there’s no mistake about that. Obviously there was no research done to see what overdosing effects there would be. But my blood pressure is fine most of the time and I don’t have any other problems. Anytime you overdose on ANYTHING you will get problems. If you don’t follow the directions, you cannot expect to get reimbursed for your mistakes.

I am 21 years old and About 1 year ago I took Xenadrine EFX for about 6 months and had no problems with it. I do heavy circuit training 3 times a week with interval training 3 times a week. I also eat a healthy diet. I stopped taking it though. last week i wanted to start taking it again to help me lose a few extra pounds and i only took one pill then when i went for a run with my dog i noticed that i had pressure in my chest. So i never took anymore after that. I figure that it is not worth the risk.

First of all not everyone who takes diet pills are fat slobs. I took Metabolife 356 for energy and to lose a few lbs but am far from fat. And to those of you who are having withdrawals from your precious drugs, put yourself in the shoes of someone who has been damaged PERMANENTLY by Ephedra. Metabolife 356 to be precise.

I am 26 years old and am about to have my first pacemaker implanted after two unsuccessful ablations to reverse the damage done by this NATURAL drug. Taken as directed with diet and exercise. I truly wish that one of the self righteous of this website could experience the pain of those who were unfortunate enough to have our hearts damaged. It is only by chance not choice that some of us have been damaged and others have not. Perhaps these people are not open minded enough to realize that the damage to themselves may not have shown up in them yet. Also I hope that one of you has the opportunity to be passed out on the floor while your small children observe. Better yet maybe you would like to wake up on an operationg table with your electrophysiologist screaming at you to not move because if you do it will puncture a hole in your heart all the while there are wires with radiofrequency heat running through your arteries. Or perhaps you would like to have your drivers license revoked because you may black out while driving. I am amused that after all of the warnings put out by the FDA, Dr’s, and actual ephedra use survivors(yes, some of us did die from this crap)that you still can put your faith in something that has hurt so many. Me, I thank god everyday that I have with my kids and husband and I too think they should pay and pay alot. And meanwhile here is a little food for thought for those of you who are still faithful to the diet drug industry “STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS”. There are time limits being put on all of these injuries and the products that caused them. So those of you who are smart, sue now so that you will have the money to pay your medical bills when your heart fails because your own insurance isn’t going to…..

Could someone tell me where Mini Thins are sold? I have tried finding them on the internet to investigate what problems people have had taking them. Thanks.

  • Elvira // Nov 17, 2004 at 6:52 am

People, they sell caffeine pills, we have cigarettes, we have alcohol..all these things that because are “legal” or lets say, money makers can do the same damage as ephedra,please..excuses, the reason why none of these products are off the market is because they bring in money, hell, people are suing the tobacco companies yet we still buy cigarettes, even after these companies ADMIT that they cause CANCER, CANCER, not heart palpitations, but CANCER…isn’t it our freedom of choice to choose what we do with our bodies, isn’t it better to feel fit then to be obese..doesn’t it cause more money to deal with obese people than someone who takes a few pills to give them energy and decrease their appetite to stay fit..unfortunately, there are folks that diet and exercise alone doesn’t help, they do need a boost…but I guess we can drink coffee and take caffeine for that boost without any problems of having it be removed from the market because these products are exceptable, heck backed by the government. One baseball player’s mother had to start the domino effect…this player didn’t work out prior to baseball season, was not in shape, expected to have Xenadrine RFX help him get back into shape before baseball season, within a few months..please..how unrealistic is that..and yet because the mother suied and got involved and made a big commotion, it was taken off the market..hasn’t alcohol and cigarettes caused just a much if not more hazardous conditions to one’s health? of course, but again, it’s all about money..just think, decline in cigs and alcohol, wow, how many jobs lost, the economy would get disrupted..it’s all an oxymoron if you ask me…

Again, with any drug, if one abuses the directions of course it can lead to dangerous consequences..but its a person’s own choice and no one else..so why should everyone else pay the price for a few that had problems..NO ONE IS CREATED EQUAL..if you see that you were having problems, you stop, end of story, not make a big stink out of it..pity..just a shame that’s all..and, to this day, I still can’t find something that worked as well as that product did, there isn’t anything with the same ingredients, minus the ephedra, out there..again, such a pity..what the FDA could have done is take this product under their wing and monitor it, have it become a prescription by a doctor, supervised by a physcian…maybe that was truly the DIET PILL everyone has been dying to find and we let it slip away…pity, such a pity…

Last year I was taking Metabolife for about a month. I must have lost around 10 lbs, mainly because the drug did not make me hungry. Therefore, I wasn’t eating very much, and little to no junk food. At the time I was only 17 years old and far from being overweight. However I wanted to lose a few lbs simply to feel “skinny.” I stopped taking the drug after that month or so because I was unable to sleep, and my heart felt like it was racing at 90 miles an hour. I am now 18 and just starting taking Stacker 2 with Ephedra. This pills is slighty different, I only take around 2 a day, after I eat. With metablolife I was taking 5 or 6. I understand the warnings and side effects because I actually read and follow the labels. You are automatically putting yourself at risk for these adverse health effects by the taking the product. If you choose to take them, then read the label and follow directions. I’ve only been taking Stackers for 3 days now, but have already noticed a difference in my energy and sleeping patterns. All diet pills have their ups and downs. None are a quick fix. You can’t expect to pop some pills and chill on the couch snacking on whatever food is in front of you. I actually do try and eat healthy, and do pilates and kickboxing 3 times a week. I’m taking these for an extra kick to lose a few lbs, mainly for motivation. But if you are 20, 40, 100 lbs overweight, simply popping pills everyday will not fix your problem. If you plan to take ephedra, then my advise is to wise up about it and actually research what you are getting yourself into. There’s no quick fix to death.

Hi, i just wanted to add to this message board….i was taking Metabolife for 3 years …i took them right after i had my baby…and lost 50lbs in 2 1/2 months…after that i stopped taking them for 3 days ..when i realized i couldnt get out of bed with a migrane headache due to i was addicted to those drugs….i took 2 pills and my headache was gone and i was out of bed and doing my normal routine …3 years later i just stopped taking them due to the fact i have a big bald spot missing from my head …and i developed a thyroid disease …since i had to stop taking them again…i can barely move around anymore …im 33 and was 108 lbs …very active and very young looking …i will say this put years on my life and i have gained some weight from not being able to do to much…i do have shortness of breath…and i have this short cough …i really dont have the money to look into this much more being i recently became a single mom….but im assuming alot of my problems are from this drug….when your young your kinda dumb looking good is all that matters …but i will say you do pay for it later ….also i have alot of mood swings which are going away since i have been off them for 2 weeks …we all know diet pills are bad for ya …so theres no use in complaining about it…i wish everyone good health. :-) thanks for taking the time to read this .

I took Rip Fuel by twin labs with ephedra back in 1998 and 1999 . and had 2 seizuers in between of each other. at first they couldn’t diagnose what had casued this . Later in the summer of 1999 i had my second , at first it was unknown that rip feul with ephedra the second time it was clear ripfuel caused it. they banned the sale of ephedra products that summer of 1999 in canada. but it was to late for me. i have been on dilantin ever since and am worried of the side effects and liver disease in the future. i’ve gone off dilantin and had the seizures creap back. i am now dependent on this for the rest of my life till i die. I am currently looking for others in Canada that have experienced this or am wondering if i can join a U.S. class action lawsuit.

Be aware of aspartame and its related effects similar to ephedra. Many people were taking ephedrine and drinking diet sodas containing aspartame at the same time. Aspartame disease can be blamed for these sudden heart attacks. Just type aspartame toxicity in google and read some of the hundreds of websites devoted to this dangerous drug. I believe the wrong drug (ephedra) is being blamed here.

  • AD // Apr 23, 2005 at 7:16 pm

A lot of interesting comments here. At one point i was also an advocate of products containing ephedra. I followed everything the “label” on the bottle said and not too long ago after deciding to stop using Ephedra began to suffer from dperession. I Didnt want to go out much nor go to the gym. Recently my MD discovered some problems with my liver. These checmicals may affect everyone differently but lets not be ignorant to the fact that they are dangerous and addictive. Dont let society dictate the way you live your life. be happy with the way you are!

Ephedra killed my brother at the age of 33. He was extremely fit and healthy ( pro soccer player). It made his heart enlarged and therefore weakened. He did not know this and dropped dead of a heart attack while walking his dog. He never had any other physical problems. He was married only 4 months prior and was very happy, this should have never happened. Don’t think it can’t happen to you.

  • karen // May 24, 2005 at 9:44 pm

My husband has been taking ephedra for about 15yrs. He started taking it for energy (he has sleep apnea and is chronically fatigued). After years of use, he has built up his tolerance. I never thought of him as a drug addict, but suddenly i am scarred to death that he is out of control with his drug use. I started seeing a serious problem financially about a year ago when he started taking money out of our account without letting me know to buy ephedra. He started trying to cover it up with excuses. Our marriage/ 17years of it, is now in jepardy. I have lost trust in him with this sneeky behavior. He can go days with no sleep and then days with sleep. He works night shift which compounds the situation. His body aches with muscle fatigue. He is depressed and doesn’t seem to value his life or his family any more. Our relationship has become estranged. What do I do? Yesterday he finally admitted as to how much he was taking….an alarming 2 bottles a day!! I fear he will die from this addiction. I am angry that he has sacrificed his family over a drug. He refuses to go for drug treatment. He says he has control over it and knows he has to quit and will do so. He has been saying this and being dishonest about it for years now. What do I do for him? What do I do for my family. I see how defensive the younger people are about this “safe” drug. Believe me- we are a middle-class christian family who NEVER would of speculated that this convenient energy pill would destroy a mans health, his family, and his mental state. Any advice would be appreciated. I am at a loss and embarassed to tell anyone what I we are going through. Thanks.

  • Becca // May 31, 2005 at 10:21 am

This is to Paul C. I am sure that with the seizures, your body already had something wrong. seizures are caused by scared brian tissue. Weather you hit your head really hard in the past or even in a car wreck. You say that you still have them. That is from scared brain tissue. Ephedrine would not cause you to have them all the time. Only once, maybe. I have had seizures since I was 19 years old. I took diet pills containing ephedrine for 6 yrs and did not have any seizures because I took my meds as well. I’m sure the ephedrine trigered something that was already going to happen.

  • John // Jun 1, 2005 at 7:49 pm

I think the ephedra products are great. The Chinese have been using them for 5000 years - how come no one over there is dying? Or making a fuss about it? I am not a fat slob or lazy but there are times after work that I just don’t have the energy for a full workout without a supplement. With all the people out there in the world struggling to lose weight due to low metabolisms and the high availability of fast food it is great that there is a product out there that actually works. Ephedra works and is no more dangerous than caffeine, yet every office in America has a pot of caffeine rich coffee available plus coke machines in the lunch room… Most headaches due to withdrawal from Xenadrine or Stacker are due to the withdrawal of caffeine not ephedra. I used it for years - it was the healthiest I have ever been. I never abused - I took half the recommended dose to be on the safe side and it worked great for me.

  • Shocked // Jun 6, 2005 at 7:39 am

I see that Most of the people that had problems with ephedra did not follow the directions. Your not supposed to take it for years!

I took xenadrine RFA-1 when it first came out and I did not have problems at all. I believe it also says on there to start out for the first week with 1 pill 2 x day doesn’t it? I am sure alot of people jumped to the max dose right away.

I did walking as my form of activity. It is also important to drink water.

also remember you should not drink caffine or take asprin while taking pills that contain ephedra.

    Good luck to everyone.

    Hello,

Everyone as I have posted before. I know someone who purchased a large supply of ORIGINAL STACKER 2, before it came off the counters. The pill is definetely the same thing, the whole ingredients are the same, with the same energy levels you get after taking it, the same package and everything.

He’s willing to sell most of them out, anyone who’s interested please let me know.

Anyone interested in getting them please let me know through this website.

Please, only if you have used them before, and know how to use them and not abuse them, and of course read the labels first, and not consume any caffeine when taking them.

In order to let you guys/ladies know, this is for real, and not some sort of of scam, I’m willing to give you my phone # , which is my cell phone on me all the time. And you can call me and talk to me about or ask me any questions you have.

It’s $80 per 100 capsules of original stacker 2 with EPHEDRA. He charges me $72 dollars per 100 capsules/bottle. But I need to pay for postage.

I’m a college student, working partime, and not trying to scam anyoneone, I just think that’s is screwed up that it’s not on counters anymore, and if I can help anyone out, why not do it, cause I’m really pissed about them not being for sale anymore from the counters.

  • Tim JEBARA // Jul 2, 2005 at 3:50 am

Get real guys all these pills are bad for you. They are not natural. I used to take stacker, and began to sick after a while. The company behind the stacker product, knowing its product is high dangerous, has 3 or 4 companies, as shell companies so the spread the risk, by avoiding being shut down. Look at how they are being sold in GNC and most stores, its like they are being treated as vitamins. It was only was a matter of time before the government had to get involved in this epidemic.

  • Genn // Jul 7, 2005 at 9:25 pm

To me EPHEDRA IS NO DIFFERENT THAN GUNS. The drug nor guns kill, it’s the irresponsibile people using them!!! I have had uncontrolable eating habits for just about my whole life until I was introduced to Stacker 2’s and 3’s. I had the energy I needed, and my appetite binging was over until the gov’t put the ban on it. I never abused the pills.

  • glenda // Jul 18, 2005 at 4:55 pm

I just ordered maxadrine-same effect as xenadrine rfa-1. I got it within 3 days of ordering..they also have a bunch of ephedra pills there..including stacker 2 and 3 w/ephedra and truckers luv it. Free shipping also..

  • Misty // Jul 21, 2005 at 9:06 am

I took metabolife 356 for about a year. I lost 60 pounds, always had energy and felt great. I have tried all of the ephedra free stuff available now and it does nothing for me. I am completely for lifting the ban on ephedra because it is only dangerous if you have underlying problems. You people who had a bad reaction had something else going on before hand, maybe you just didn’t know it. The pills could have brought it to the surface, but the problem was already there or you didn’t follow the directions. Everybody reacts to things differently and no one can say for sure how a body will react to these pills. I can drink highly caffeinated drinks all day long and go right to sleep any time I want, while other people can drink one cup of coffee and be climbing the walls. Just because there are some people who don’t like the way it makes them feel doesn’t mean the rest of us aren’t entitled to form our own opinion of the products. I am allergic to chocolate. I have a life threatening reaction if I consume it. Does that give me the right to tell everyone to stay away from it? Yeah right! I don’t appreciate being told that I can no longer take metabolife 356 because it made other people sick. It didn’t make me sick at all!

I was taking Xenadrine for just a few weeks, I was losing weight but i started having pain in my chest and I was waking up out of a deep sleep thinking I was going to die, I really felt i was having a heart attack, I stopped taking the Xenadrine because i had a strong feeling it was the cause. But the attacks kept happening so I set up a doctors appointment she gave me a complete exam blood test excetra all came back normal so she sent me to a cardiologist he ran every test on me including an ultrasound something was causing me to have severe panic attacks.

I was put on klonopin to help with these attacks I wish i never started taking any pills now I am afraid I am damaged for life and I do not know how this will affect my heart over a period of time. Is there anyone else out there going through the same thing? Do you know of any current lawsuit in NY State

I am amazed at how many of you have taken supplements with ephedra, knew the possible consequences, and now want to sue the companies ‘for every dime’ possible. You people are fucking unreal! If I were on a jury and heard your case, I would hold you liable and ask you to pay the companies $ for all of the unnecessary negativity you are causing. All of the cases I have read have indicated that the users were abusers and/or so severely overweight/had other health issues that there was nothing they could take that wouldn’t cause a reaction. Well, I guess we do live in America, and suing is the only way to resolve things. It’s a shame none of you can take accountability and responsibility for your actions.

i was really interested in xenadrine so i researched it. im in GREAT shape but wanted to look PHENOMENAL. it had lots of pros but at the same time a few cons. reading the cons, i would laugh at these people and consider them “weak”. i said i wouldnt possibly have THOSE side effects. i worked at a gym, worked out all time, and was in GREAT shape. but because of my greediness, i wanted MORE. i took xenadrine, and it has been the worst weekend of my life. i feel like im having a panic attack and i cant even function. i didnt even have the ENERGY or MOTIVATION to go the gym. i ALWAYS have energy and motivation to go. but after taking xenadrine, i was in a terrible condition. but nevertheless i took it for the third day just to fully test it out. i just went running on it. what would normally be an easy jog/sprint for me, i felt like DYING. i felt soooo bad you have no idea. i’ve never felt like this. i still feel horrible and thats how i think im having the motivation to write this. i just want to warn people… SURE there are drugs that works miracle on some people. but TRUST me, this is not a joke. im never taking any sort of diet pill again after this. ive never felt more stupid and fooled. working out naturally is ALWAYS going to be the best way to go. my heart is still beating so fast from xenadrine and im shaky. the cons you’ve read from people are all true. i thought i was invisible until i took xenadrine. PLEASE thinik twice before taking this or conider something else. my god, i would even recommend surgery over this in my opinion. at least surgery wont fuck up your heart permanently.

Whats up everyone? I know for a fact that ephedra is good for losing weight and inches.I lost 25 lbs in 1 month and I was fine. But of course if you abuse it you will have bad side effects. I did have one incident where I took 4 more pills in one day then I should have. Yes I did have fast heartbeats and dizzy. But why? Because I abused it. Not because a company fault.i didnt but the plain on anyone else but me.The rules are simple read and follow the labels and it will be cool. Dont follow the rules and have bad side effects.ok

I am still looking for something as effective as xenadrine RFA-1 or Ripped Fuel anyone please hit me up with info

I am a firefighter in colorado and was taking xenadrine along with creatine for my workouts. One year into working out, I developed the need to have a valve replacement in my heart. I am still firefighting however I have a St. Jude valve implanted due to these medications.

When I decided to take ephedra I did the smart thing and talked to my doctor about my health. He said that he had to check out my family history and my medical history. After he did that, he told me to go ahead and it would most likely help me with weight-loss and my dangerously low blood pressure. I lost 80lbs in 8 months. I didn’t have any side affects that my doctor or I could find. He explained to me that the reason some people have problems with ephedra is in their family history or a condition the person had before they started to take it didn’t notice. He said that ephedra does speed up the heart just like too many cups of coffee can and so it works your heart muscles. If you or your family had or has any heart related problems than you shouldn’t take ephedra. Also follow the damn directions on the container you idiots!!! The first direction on all weight-loss bottles are “Talk to your doctor before starting any weight loss program.” Which one is worse, ephedra or being overweight? If you want to bitch about the side affects of ephedra, you should look into the side affects of being fat. Maybe your heart just couldn’t take the workout because you all are to lazy to get into an exercise program that will raise your heart rate naturally. By the way, who shoved the pills down your throat? You did, so if anyone is to blame it is you. I know that it’s boring to read all the lable warnings on the packages but they are there to guide you into making an informed decision about what you put into your body. So go fuck yourselves and stop bitching about something you had complete control over!!!!
