Bayer said new reports allege 52 people died after taking the anti-cholesterol drug Baycol. Bayer pulled from the market Lipobay, which is linked to about 40 deaths, after increasing evidence that the drug caused deterioration in muscle tissue, a condition called rhabdomyolysis.

“There is currently no proof” that the drug is the cause of the deaths, said Bayer.
