General Nutrition Centers, the largest U.S. specialty retailer of nutritional supplements, said it would discontinue the sale of all products that include ephedra, a weight-loss chemical that has been linked to serious side effects.
“We believe that ephedra-based products are safe when used as directed,” said GNC President and Chief Executive Michael Meyers. “Nonetheless, the current business climate dictates that we move in a different direction.”
The American Heart Association in April urged for a ban on all ephedra products.
“There is no such thing as a magic weight loss pill and anyone who takes these products looking for a quick fix is misleading themselves,” said Dr. Robert Bonow, Heart Association president, at the time.

i have had great results from ephedra ripped fuel with no problems at all,the problems come from people who miss use the product.i am 38 years old my energy levels are not what they use to be and extra weight began to appear.after useing ripped fuel my energy levels started to sky rocket and weight loss came naturally.these pills changed my life.just taking 1 in the morning and 1 in mid afternoon was all i needed,i went from 150 ponds to 120 pounds in two months,weight loss was not really what i was needing from these pills,it was energy so i ended up getting the best of both worlds.even though i am saddened by the side effects it has caused others, i feel i have been punished by other peoples miss use now i am unable to purchase any product containing ephedra, i think retailers should still be able to sell the product only if they post warnings on labels about side effect and prohibit the sales to minors!

I tried everything to loose weight and Metabolife356 with ephedra finally did the trick. I managed to loose 38 pounds in 8 weeks. It always seems to me that as soon as “WE” the consumers, find something that actually works, there is a small majority of people who abuse the product which in turn backfires on the rest of us who actually use the products as directed. Why do “WE” have to suffer because some people can’t follow simple directions? Post warnings on lables and restrict the sale to minors, but for heavens sake, let us decide if we want to take the chance. It’s unfair to the rest of us, who praise and swear by these products to be cut off because of the stupidity of others!

I think the FDA has just used the misuse by a few people out there as an excuse to ban the product and pave the way for the drug companies (who they receive money from) to sell more of their dangerous diet drugs. It is frustrating to no longer be able to get a hold of the only thing that works for me.

I have used the metabolife 356 and lost 25 pounds in 3 months and loved my results. Now that it is ephedra free I can’t seem to loose anything. It just does not work without the ephedra. I had no problems with this diet pill. I think that people abuse the product and we are paying the price.

I went from 180 lbs. to 140 lbs. in three months using ephedra 2 years ago. I only took 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. Since it was banned I gained all the weight back even though I excercise regularly and watch my diet. I’m miserable and busting out of all my clothes. Wow, I’ve finally come across a site where there are people in the same boat as me! I lost 46 lbs. on Metabolife 356. Now, it’s banned….and I’ve gone up 2 jean sizes!

I am in the same boat. I lost 30 pds and KEPT it off with Metabolife. I cheered for the NFL at that time, since the ban I have gained 40 pds. I wear sweats all the time . It is sad to say that this ban has done damage to alot of people, I dont understand though that tobacoo and cigaretts kill hundreds of more people, they are not banning that!

I put 40 back on and started sleeping all day again. With the Ephedra I’d stay awake all day cleaning , walking , riding my bike. I had a life. I hope to God it comes back. Even though the ban has been lifted, it’s not as happy an event as it seems. It is only a PARTIAL lifting of the ban, allowing only certain types of pills to be manufactured. Unfortunately, what is being allowed is a very low dosage of ephedra pills. It will be 10mg or less..consider that the “old” stuff was 20mg!! That’s a huge difference. You now have to take more to attain the same results. And as of now, the only state I know of that has approved it’s return it Utah. So, even though it’s sort of back, the government has found a way to ruin it..

I have to chime in. I ran across this website desperately looking for Hydroxycut WITH ephedra. I lost 35 lbs with it my goal was to lose 50-55 and the bottle was ripped out of my hands before I hit goal. I thought no problem I’m working out, I’m eating healthy I should be fine. Wrong. Yes, I too have been trying to get products with ephedra. I tried to order from powerthin but they don’t ship to NY, they stated NY has different laws. So i ordered from fitnessone.com (they had a product called Xen supposedly it’s like xenadrine rfa-1 but the dosage of ephedra is 8 mg way less than the orginal of 20 mg. hopefully i get it, but they did say they are allowed to ship to NY, got to wait and see.

Everybody listen up. I have found a combo that works. I was going crazy trying to find an ephedra based product. I finally found what works. First google search Vasopro Ephedrine. These tabs contain 25mg of pharmacutical grade ephedrine. This product is marketed as a decongestant. The herbal supplement was banned but not the drug form. But that is only half of what made the old ephedra mix work. You still need caffine and some other things. So go buy the ephedra free capsules of whatever you used to take ie. epherda free yellow swarm, or stacker2 or stacker3. just whatever suits you. Take 1 of the ephedra free capsules to every 2 ephedrine tabs. What you have is a combo just like the old ephera based products. It gives you energy and appitite control. Please someone confirm this by posting a follow up message for everbody. I ordered my Vasopro Ephedrine tabs from getbuf.com $12.80 for 48 tabs shipped. It took 1 solid week to get to me though. It works for me.

Does anyone know if it’s legal to sell your own ephedra pills? I tried to sell some of my Metabolift stash on Ebay, but they pulled my listing, and sent me a notice that I violated their drug policy. I’ve seen other listings on Ebay for the exact same stuff though! I’ve seen bottles of 60 capsules go for over $100 (!), so I’d love to put my mine up for sale too. As I was researching to see if any response from the FDA regarding the Utah ruling had been posted, I came across some interesting articles on the original April 14th Utah ruling. Both stated that the judge’s language was specific to products with less than 10 mg as a daily dose (as was the case with the Utah manaufacturer’s product in question). It also seems that the 3 states which also have state bans-CA, IL and NY-this ruling would have no effect at all. Most ephedra products have a per dose quantity of 20-25 mg of ephedra. My conclusion is that esentially no ephedra products are no legal to sell unless they have a 10 mg total per day dosage level (not per dose!). I did find it a little odd that I was able to have Stacker 2 sent to me. I have 8 bottles in my stash now. Regarding Vasopro, doesn’t the decongestant ingredient (is it dmx?) dry you out when your taking it? I’ve seen that product and considered it but wonder about the anticholinergic effects of the other ingredient. I’m in the same boat as everyone else, gained back 40lbs, in spite of starving to death on 4 protein shakes a day (only) and exercising like crazy. I don’t think it has to do with self-control, or appetite suppression. From what I gather, you already naturally have ephedrine in your body, introduce high doses of a synthetic form and your body suppresses it’s own production, stop the synthetic form and your left with nothing. The herbal ephedra in the new products on the market are weaker, not just the dose but I believe it comes from a different part of the mau huang plant. Anyone with more info in this area? So basically we all need to stay on ephedra forever, I’d opt for that option considering the alternative…diabetes, heart disease, joint replacement. For six years I took metabolife 356, never more than 4 pills a day and usually only two (after the weight came off) and never had any adverse affects. I think the problems that led to the ban on ephedra have more to do with abuse of the drug or personal susceptibility to cardiac arrhythmias/heart failure, combining other drugs (steroids?) or what not. What do you think?

I totally agree with ephedra for weight loss. I was taking xenadrine rfa-1 and lost 30 pounds on it. Since then I have gained about 15 back and am looking for the product again. It was great and nothing out here in the ephedra-free world compares to it. Does anyone know where I can get this product ?

The person whom I get this from(original STACKER 2 WITH EPHEDRA), is one of my friend’s friend, don’t really know him. But I got about 3-4 months worth of original stacker 2. I paid $75 for 100 pills/bottle. He won’t tell me where he got them from, and doesn’t want too many to know he sells them either, so I’ll just tell him they’re for me. I just ordered some more, too.
I remember I only used to pay about $50-60 dollars per bottle, but don’t care, as long as I can still get them.

I am 22 here and have always had a weight problem. When I started working out with Hydroxycut with the ephedra. I lost 70 pounds in 6 months! Now after a year and a half I have gained 50 pounds back. THIS IS UNFAIR! Ephedra really helped me! And Im not a lazy ass. I’ve played softball for 9 years and NCAA ice hockey. Im a very active person. The Hydroxycut is the only thing that helped me. I just bought Lipodrene at a GNC store in NC and have lost about 4 lbs in just a few days. I was wanting to know if anyone who has used it or anything similar and then quit, gained back weight even if they ate a balanced diet and did some exercise? These fkn whores at the FDA are completely out of control. There are many hundreds of deaths each year associated with aspirin and acetaminophen. (By some estimates, aspirin- related deaths alone number more than 1,000 per year.) These pain killers are manufactured by many companies, but the major players are Bayer (the maker of Bayer Aspirin, of course), and Johnson & Johnson (the maker of Tylenol) - two of the largest drug companies in the world. They both have deep pockets to fuel very aggressive lobbying efforts in Washington.
It’s becoming unreal in this country exactly how powerful the FDA is. They can pass laws with regard to food or drugs that congress doesn’t even have to approve. Can someone please explain to me how 13 of the last 20 heads of the FDA have gone on to become CEO’s at pharmaceutical corporations? hmmm?

Same issue as Cindi above. I have ephedra (356) but dont know if it’s legal to sell ? I tried to sell some of my Metabolife on Ebay, but they pulled my listing, and sent me a notice that I violated their drug policy. I’ve seen other listings on Ebay for the exact same stuff though! I’ve seen bottles of 60 capsules go for over $100 (!), so I’d love to put my mine up for sale too. I know they can’t retail new bottles anymore, but I think you should be allowed to sell any personal bottles you already have. Any legal way to sell this?

It sure feels like the vast majority of us ARE being punished…and for what? The misuse of this beneficial herb by a minute segment of the population. This has given all ephedra products a bad reputation.
The truth will prevail and I predict that Metabolife 356-like products will make a strong come-back shortly, and a legal one at that! I’m so disappointed. I have been using Trim-S for 2-3 days now, taken as directed, and I experienced NO EFFECTS whatsoever, good or bad! I now feel ripped-off and very angry.

Hi Melanie W….Lipodrene works well for me. It helps to control my over-active appetite, too. I decided to try it for the first time yesterday while I waited for the Powerthin to arrive, which I just received today. I will give Powerthin a try tomorrow and keep you posted on what I think. The Lipodrene sat in my cabinet for a couple of weeks because I “assumed” the 25mg dose of natural ephedra in one tablet might be too much for me but it’s proving to do a great job with appetite and gives a mild energy boost too. There’s also Hoodia Extract (cactus), among other ingredients too numerous to mention here.
As for Trim-S, the company I ordered it from is working to remedy the problem by offering to send me a bottle of something similar that may be better for me. I like their willingness to meet their customers more than half-way. What a relief and I no longer feel angry or ripped-off since they’re being very reasonable about it. Take care everyone. I have really enjoyed reading all of your feed back on dietary supplements. I am currently looking for a good “appetite suppressant” and haven’t been successful! I did order “Ultra Lean Extreme” and it works great with giving me energy and allowing me to work out longer and stronger at the gym (I could go 5 hours if I wanted to and still feel great) but I still feel hungry all the time from all the activity I am doing. It does not kill the hunger and sugar cravings at all! This is what I am really looking for, opposed to the extra energy. Has the Liprodrene worked so far for you Melanie W. with the appetite? If anyone can tell me the best hunger killer with ephedra, I would appreciate it! thanks graciemay! the first 2 pills I took of the expired 356 did seem less potent:( but it very well may be my imagination. the bottles were sealed- can the ephedra actually lessen with age? I know vitamins diminish, but I am not sure about herbs, like ma huang. these must have been sold back in 1998 or something, right? (to have an 05/00 expiration)…oh WHY can’t they just sell this stuff again, christ I only take 1/2 pill at a time anyway. SO frustrating!!

Hi all,
Graciemay I am taking the pills cut in half just because I wanted to ease into it. I started them Saturday taking 1/2 an hour after breakfast and 1/2 an hour after lunch. I did notice a difference in my appetite and energy level but I think I do need to go with the full pill. I was, however, considering going to taking it on an empty stomach. Were you saying not to do that in general or just until I am used to taking them again?
Also, Jennifer, so far so good on the pills. I was not hungry for dinner and if it wasnt for my husband cooking Sat and Sun nights I would have skipped it altogether but didnt want to hurt his feelings. I did, however, only eat a plain hot dog and one corn on the cob as opposed to ten times that plus dessert : )
So I started out at 164 yesterday morning. I will weight myself again a week from now and post results because thats really what its all about in the end!

As for my opinion on Lipodrene vs. Powerthin, I am favoring the Lipodrene more now. The instructions on the bottle suggest taking it one hour after a meal, that’s the reason I said that. So I am hoping to be online for more than a few seconds tomorrow and will start a forum then. I was trying to think of a clever name but am drawing a blank. I did like some of your ideas Graciemay. What I want is something that will let people searching know its a group for people that LIVE with ephedra ; ) and not just a place to spam us with sites that sell it. I will probably for that reason make each new member be moderated for a while to be sure they are real people so if that happens to you dont be offended.

I just recently started taking a stack of ECA, 3 times a day. my primatine,(ephedra, 25 mg for 2 tabs) vivarine( 1 tab is 200 mg of caffine) and asprin(350 mg for 1 tab) really gives me a good boost, and it is just how i felt when I used metabolife 356 years ago.I’m sycked!!! from what I understand, buying ephedra separately isnt illegal, but when combined with other ingredients it is ( or was because of the ban). ephedra as a whole is considered a food product and cant be banned….just some food for thought..I’m glad to have found this site!!

I have used ephedra and non-ephedra diet products for the past 8 years. Unfortunately, even with all the side effects, the ephedra based products are the best for losing weight quickly. As you know, ephedra was banned, but last april a federal judge temporarily lifted the ban on ephedra, so some ephedra products can still be sold., with exceptions to the amount and “use” of ephedra - for example, ephedra can no longer be stated as a safe nor a weight loss agent. It can marketed as a nasal decongestant. The major supplement companies like Muscletech - they make the Real Hydroxycut or Cytodyne Technologies - they make Xenadrine- have stopped formulating ephedra in their products for some time, plus their insurance companies will not allow them to sell ephedra because of fear of lawsuits. So, as it stands, the only products you are going to find with ephedra are made by the smaller Supplement companies not the big name ones mentioned earlier,who are not concerned with lawsuits because they have only been around a few years and they do not have the same Reputation to upheld as Muscletech which is now known internationally or Cytodyne.Some people buy the ephedrine separately and stack it with ephedra free products- but beware - most ephdra free prodcuts have replaced the ephedra with massive amounts of other stimulants such as caffeine and synephrine - which can all lead to the same side effects.

I feel exactly the same as you do about Metabolife 356 and ephedra in general. I’ve also gained most of the weight back that I had lost while using M-356 for years with NO PROBLEMS whatsoever. The media and the FDA hype the negative side-effects of ephedra because I believe it’s the billion dollar pharmaceutical companies running the show and they do NOT want any “dietary supplement/herbal remedy” stealing all their profits, especially in the huge weight loss business arena!
Also, a well-known sports figure happened to kill himself while popping ephedra products as if it were candy…Well, DAH!! Who wouldn’t die from abusing an herbal supplement as he did?
Whoever is reading this post and the one below it from Kellito, Plz. let us know HOW and WHERE we can purchase Metabolife 356 or something as effective as this product used to be for millions of us. I’ve recently tried out many of the “post-ban” newer ephedra products and none of them even come close to the effectiveness of Metabolife 356.
There’s got to be someone who knows something to help us find what will help without costing us an arm or a leg!!

What were the exact ingrediants (and percentage’s) in Metabolife 356? I am hearing that nothing else is working as good as that product but can’t you look for the exact same ingrediants in another product? I did that once with another herb and it worked just the same. Just curious if anyone has some left or an empty bottle, and be able to share the ingrediants? And I highly recommend “Ultra Lean Extreme” for energy! It’s at a reasonable price at bingproducts.com I have never felt so much energy in my life…highly suggest it for the work out junkies.

I first got hooked on Stacker 3, as that helped the best with my weight loss. I lost about 65 pounds and slowly gained it back over the course of a year. I am torn between going back to stacker 3 or trying lipodrene. Definitely leerly in what to try since everything I have tried since the ban hasn’t quite worked. Thoughts?

Glad to find this message board. I started back taking ephedra 1 month ago after finishing a bottle of Farenheit, which did nothing for weight loss but kept me in a good mood. I am on my second week of Stacker 2 and have noticed no changes in my weight. I am going to try Lipodrene but would like to hear from those who are taking it. Should I even bother? The best product in the world that not only took off my excess weight AND toned my abs was Ripped Fuel w/ephedra by Twin Lab. i feel the same as most about the metabolife 365. i lost all the weight i gained when i had a child almost five years ago and it stayed off. i have been trying to find it or something that works just as well and nothing works. i am also on an exercise program but the 365 is just awsome. the bottle posted all warning lablels so why stop the sell of it. if anyone can please help me i would love you forever. lol..

I too lost a lot of weight on Metabolife356 and was devastated when they stopped selling it. NOTHING comes close! I am hoping they will lift the ban. If anyone knows where to find it, please shoot me an email. I don’t understand what the problem was. There were warnings on the bottles, just like cigarettes, alcohol and any other medication. It is the person’s discretion as to following them. I began taking 2 at a time, four pills total a day. I would take a two week break and then resume. Once I reached my goal weight, I cut the dosage to one pill at a time. I looked great. I felt great and I every exam I had while using Metabolife 356 was fine. My blood pressure was fine and all of my other vitals as well. My doctor of over 7 years told me that she’d never seen me in such great health and look so good! PLEASE BRING BACK METABOLIFE 356!

they took Ephedra out also when they heard it wasn’t safe but it still gives

Excuse me, but you’re posting on the wrong website! Ephedra products are 100% safe and effective when used as directed. You’re obviously attempting to convince people who know better! I myself have tried many “ephedra-free products, but they made me sick to my stomach and were loaded with too much caffeine and other garbage that made my blood pressure go sky-high. We know better because most of us have wasted lots of money on supposed effective ephedra-free products that are very dangerous and a waste of money. Buyer beware!

Well i guess theyr’re putting ephegra back out on the market so I heard. I really hope that GNC starts selling it again. I used to buy alot of things from GNC. But when they quit selling stackers with ephedra. I had to start going online, along with the other 1000’s of marines. I really hope they get it back on the shelf. Has anyone taken both lipodrene and the new stimorex ES to compare the differences in weight loss. I have taken all ephedra products under the Sun. Have currently been on LIpodrene for about 4 months. In total with all Stacker products, Lipodrene and a few others I have lost 40 pounds since last year. I like Lipodrene but don’t want to switch to Stimorex if there is no need. I do want to say that after being on ephedra products for so long it is very hard to get off and maintain the weight. I was off them last month for only two weeks and could not control my appetite which made me eat way to much and to often and gain back 10 pounds in that two weeks. After I returned to teh LIpodrene I lost all the weight I gained but realized that I really can’t get off these pills and maintain the weight. Sad but true.

Just ran across this site yesterday. My story is about the same, ephedra worked wonders for me. I was 49, five kids, couldn’t get the weight off, our athletic club where I worked started selling an ephedra product, I tried it, lost 40lbs, went to a size 8, started running and lifting, (now had the energy )
