The Federal Communications Commission approved a $5.4 million fine against Fax.com for faxing unsolicited advertisements to consumers in violation of the do-not-fax rules. The company sends faxes on behalf of clients for a fee.
The FCC said the fine given to Fax.com was the “largest single fine ever imposed by the Commission” for violation of the do-not-fax rules.
The FCC found that Fax.com had violated the rules on 489 separate occasions. The Commission imposed the maximum fine of $11,000 for each violation β βin light of the fact that Fax.com’s primary business activity itself constitutes a massive on-going violation of the do-not-fax rules,β FCC said.
The Commission said it rejected arguments from Fax.com that the so-called junk fax ban is unconstitutional and that the amount of the fine was excessive.
In addition to the fine, the FCC ordered Fax.com to file a report within 30 days indicating whether it has come into compliance with the do-not-fax rules prohibiting junk faxes.

where and how do we sign up for the “Do Not Fax” service. We are overwhelmed by unwanted advertisements everyday.
I agree that it would be of great interest to those (especially in the business community) to find a program to block spam faxes or to establish a “Do Not Fax” services such as is available with telephone solicitation refusal.
i have accumulated over 500 faxes within the last 20 days. I have svaed each page as proof. What can I do, who can I call, who can I send these too to stop the nonsense?
I have removed my fax number from the same list three times. If I get another from that number, I’m gonna go ape sh*t on them. I’ll go through any means necessary to make them pay.
I work for a non-profit. We constantly ‘remove’ our fax number using the free contact number on these faxes, to no avail. I’d love to be able to charge these people for the paper and ink they use up.
