Pfizer, the world’s biggest drugs company, said it has filed a lawsuit against the operator of look4generics.com, an Internet distributor of generic drugs, for selling an “unapproved copy” of the cholesterol drug Lipitor.

The Lipitor copy is marketed as Storvas. The site claims the copy is made by Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals, India’s largest pharmaceutical company.

The Lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court in Delaware, seeks an injunction against further sales of Storvas and claims infringement of Pfizer’s patent and trademark rights for Lipitor.

Pfizer warns Lipitor consumers that Storvas is “neither manufactured by Pfizer nor approved by the FDA and therefore is being sold illegally.
