I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and then given Zyprexa. I was on the drug for over 8 years, and gained a least 60 lbs. Now I have Diabetes and have been living with that for over 7 years. My life has been shortened now and I won’t be able to enjoy some of the finer things in life, not to mention that I have NO INSURANCE to cover ANY of my medications, doctor bills and so forth because I’m ONLY 33 years old. I realize that I fortunate because I did take motorcycle rides and even survived a crash, BUT my life is important too!!! I would just like enough to be able to survive until I’m gone and Be able to pay for doctors bills and the medicaton that is needed to control my diabetes. Surgery would be wonderful, BUT HOW DO I PAY FOR A GASTRIC BYPASS when I can barely pay my BILLS. Any information on what I should do is welcome. P.S. I live in Wyoming.

During a 3 month in-patient hospital stay in 2001, I was given Zyprexa, although not diagnosed as psychotic. In 4 months time I had gained over 100lbs. I’ve been lucky not to develop Diabetes, but I’m still suffering. I’m unable to do physical work in part because of the weight gain combined with fatigue and back pain. I still havent been able to lose the weight and I am worried about my health. However angry I get over taking Zyprexa, it was the prescribing physician and the Doctors and Nurses who should have been monitoring my weight and questioning why I was given the drug that I’m most concerned about. I dont want this or something worse to happen to someone else.

PATIENTS: do your own research, there are other alternatives and other anti-psychotics. Don’t let this or worse happen to you.

Together we can hopefully get Zyprexa and other dangerous drugs off the market.

i walked for three days was declared schizoaffective becasue of ocd reaction almost killed myself and now sometimes wish i was dead. zyprexa is an ineffective inhumane drug and should not be prescribed for anything except for treatment resistant schizophrenia.

My daughter was prescribed ZyPrexa in 1999 and was misdiagnosed bipolar and suspected to be schizophrenic, and all the while she is in fact autistic, and reacted severely to zyprexa, with schizo reaction, hallucinations, agitation, weight gain, edema, among others. The doctors only look at the symtoms and refuse to look at these adverse side effects, lives are ruined, lost, and they should all be held accountable. My daughter is only 17 and has dealt with being told she was mentally ill now since age 11, and that is a true bitter pill to swallow!

i started on zyprexa in ’97 gained about 80lbs. in little over 6 yrs. and now that i found out that i have sugar my depression has got worse because i can not leed a normal life i worry about doing alot of things that i never even entered my mind before because i have known quite a few people who got hurt in someway lost a foot or leg it is very scary for me to even go for a motorcycle ride anymore, like every says their settlement is not enough, even a million would not be enough because i cannot enjoy life like i used to, i wish they would find a cure for diabetes!!

I feel that Zyprexa is a very dangerous drug and whoever is on it, should get off of it ASAP. My fiance was prescribed Zyprexa for one year and he is now dead because of it. He gained approx. 80lbs on the drug and it caused him to get diabetes which was never detected by his doctor. This caused him to go into a diabetic coma and die. I now have a son who will never see his father again because of this drug. I have filed a lawsuit and don’t feel it is fair for our lawsuit to be lumped into one with other people since only a handful of people have died from the drug. Zyprexa is very dangerous…

I’ve been on zyprexa for 3 years and have gained 60 pounds. Iam not diabetic yet but i tend to take alot of sweets because it helps me think clearly when i dont get enough sleep. Zyprexa has given me unbarable anxioty and small panic attakcs.

I’ve also contracted diabetes through taking ZYPREXA and Iv’e gain 801bs.Just find you a lawyer that deals with suing pharmaceutical companies. Also they say that they haven’t finalized it yet. I hope their will be more money because $690,000000 is not enough for $8,000 people, that’s $62,500 a piece. What about the people that died they deserve more….. way more money than that.They should v’e gave us at least a coupler billion, they can afford it.They’ll make that money back in half a year.They make about 4 billion a year.So if anybody caught diabetes by taking ZYPREXA…….. SUE. yours truly rc p.s. This is a life long disease.oh by the way I’m getting GASTRI BYPASS so my diabetes and getting rid of the excess weight. The dr. said if anyone had diabetes under 10 years that the operation will take it away, but you have to be 100 1bs overweight with health problems eg. diabetes bye

I think that as a punitive measure, should we (mental health consumers) win this case, is have the Court rule to allow us to take or NOT take psych meds voluntarilly because of their volatility; mental illness should not be a death sentence!!!

I have gained over 100 lbs on zyprexa and other so-called atypical antiphycotics that I can’t get rid of without going off all the drugs; anybody else?
