Current and former subscribers of Verizon Wireless will be get two vouchers, which include $30 off a new or renewed contract, a $24 credit on an existing contract, 1,500 free text messages and $15 off Verizon merchandise, as part of a settlement approved by a California judge Thursday.
The class-action lawsuit, Campbell v. AirTouch Cellular and Cellco Partnership, was filed against Verizon Wireless over its alleged failure to disclose billing practices and services restrictions.
The settlement was approved May 13 by Sand Diego Superior Court Judge William Pate, who rejected a settlement offer in 2002 that consumer groups said was inadequate.
About 40 million current or former customers of Verizon Wireless and its predecessors and subsidiaries from Jan. 1, 1991 to Nov. 2, 2003 are said to be part of the class. Included are AirTouch Cellular, Bell Atlantic Mobile, Nynex Mobile, and GTE Wireless.

After calling the hotline for this lawsuit (866 881 7170) I found out that apparently anyone in the suit will get information on how to get these vouchers in the mail or by email after the new settlement is made. There is, of course, no set date that they have to be done with the new settlement, so I’m guessing this one will sit on the backburner for a while. However, verizons site over the suit (http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/footer/legalNotices/campbell/index.jsp) says that information will be added to the page no later than 1/30/2005 about how to get these vouchers.

I know of Verizon’s practice of this very well. Their America plan was a farce. From mid Ohio down I-75 to Atlanta….no coverage…zilch. And most of the places you did get a signal…you got charged roaming charges. Not once did I ever exceed my monthly minutes but wound up with massive bills because I was in Recruiting and these were not reimbursed by the Army.

Its been so long and I feel we should get our vouchers now. Will they mail them to us at the proper time? I sure could use those 1500 texts. Thanks

I’ve withheld payment for the amount of the credit pending resolution of this case. The only way I can clear my credit history ($25) is resolution of this case. Meanwhile I continue to be harassed by a collection agency. Is there any legal recourse?

I’ve had the company to keep throwing charges at me that I don’t owe. Customer service kept saying they would correct everything and they never did. I finally just stopped paying them, which has hurt my credit. Doesn’t really matter as companies like that are bent on putting the squeeze on you as tightly as they can and when you don’t pay, they can ruin your credit. I won’t play their games so I’ll just settle for my credit being hurt. I have to stand up for what’s right here.

I made the mistake of asking Verizon to match their competitor’s offer of $10 per additional phone (I was being charged $20 per). I told them that I did not want the contract extended because their coverage in my area was insufficient. Yet the Verizon “Customer Care” person created another 2-year contract. When I tried to rectify it, they sent me another 2 year contract. Has anyone had similar problems? They have threatened me with reporting this to the credit bureaus. I feel they are being unethical. I have signed nothing.

Anyone feel like they got shafted using “Get it now” features? such as lack of disclaimer that utilizing such features would eat airtime even when you are not downloading them? I feel verizon does not suficiantly warn its customers of this. Anyone else?

I am a party to this suit, however I have a new complaint against Verizonwireless.
How long can they keep getting away with these action. We need a change of government policy “by the people and for the people’ not by 71 billion dollar/ year Corporations. Read on
Having been contacted by Verizonwireless (VW)concerning my overdue account, I audited my bill and found I was overcharge for nights (after 9pm) and weekends. I proceeded to contact Verizonwireless on June 7, 2005 via the contact number on my bill *611. The call was answered by the Charleston office in a timely manner and Operator Patricia (operator 3686) was extremely helpful. In so much so that I was referencing my April bill concerning the overcharges. She said that she observed overcharges for May. And not only May she observed from her records as far back as she could access, that I was overcharged for nationwide long-distance along with Nights and weekend contradicting my cell phone plan.
I have 4 numbers on the plan and only one number (my original cell phone number was being overcharged)
I asked to be contacted by her Supervisor Dave Kish. She said he was not available until 2pm and would leave a message to call me. I waited for his call he did not call. I then called him approx. 4pm and asked for a full audit to be performed and I also asked how many other customer had been involved with my same problem. He had no answer and said he would get back to me.
I know of a least hundreds of dollars I was overcharged. The is no telling who else has been overcharged.
I demand a full investigation be conduct and full restitution with interest be awarded to damaged customers along with pain and suffering from conflicts deriving from overcharges on cell phone bill.
I myself have suffer physical and emotional damages from my family members due to overcharges on my cell phone bill which I have come to find out some of them were Verizonwireless errors and omissions.
Verizon by be responsible for a form of domestic Terrorism!
CHECK YOUR VERIZONWIRELESS BILLS PEOPLE!!!
AND REPORT BACK TO http://www.ripoffreport.com
“With more than $71 billion in annual revenues, Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ - News) is one of the world’s leading providers of communications services.” as per Verizonwireless website.
I wonder how much of the 71B is fraud?
Update: VW call me last night after 9pm and offered to settle for a few hundred dollars.
They did not mention the scare tactics they implemented against me (threatening to turn off my phone) which I did pay but they did not apply to my account. Additionally my wife paid off the bill in full ( I found out later) and they did not apply her payment also.
Sorry, VW settlement offer is unacceptable! Try again!
We need to send these guys a real message, they still have not got one ,yet.
Stop ripping off the US public and hire, train and pay good people who will not make these errors VW Corporation is hiding behind.

I was with Virizon Wireless when they were AirTouch in Washington state. I was with them for almost 10 years total. Since moving to Florida 4 years ago I also signed back up with them. Started having problems with Verizon about 2 years ago. I finished my contract and went to T-Mobile for 1 year. T-Mobile has the pooooor coverage of any carrier in the USA. On the other hand T-Mobile has got the BEST service I have come across. After my stint for one year with T-Mobile I decided to go back to Verizon but could not get any coverage inside my home what so ever. I found out through a great deal of investagating that the antenas Verizon uses where located on lakes near my home. Four of them are within 2 miles. But they can NOT point them across the water as per FCC regulations. Bouncing signals or something. Verizon sucked it up and dropped my account without charging early termination fee. I would like to know from anyone, how come I was never told about the law suit against Verizon. I was with them until Dec. of 2003 and again for the months of Jan-Mar of 2005. When I reopened my account in Jan 2005 I was NEVER offered any of the settlement when they knew I had been a customer during this period.

My problems with Verizon began when they sold me a product that did not perform to the contract specification. Their North America plan was supposed to cover Vancouver BC to Whistler BC as well as the US. It didn’t. All of the canada charges were considered roaming. During that time someone at Verizon changed the plan without my knowledge or approval. They changed the plan to to a lower number of minutes. Once Verizon responded and correct the problem and gave me credit for these charges they were supposed to stop access to the phones still in Vancouver BC. They did not. We had arranged for other Canada service that was more dependable. My 16 year old son continued to receive calls and actually make calls - thinking that if the phone was still operational he could use it. Had Verizon done as requeted he would not have had access to cell service through this phone. As a result they are now charging me thousands of dollars for service that should have been cancelled. We are in dispute with them. They have however turned off service which is resulting in a serious security matter for our family. I would like anyone who is intending litigation against verizon to post here. I will join in the action against Verizon.

I had been trying to cancel my contract for some time, Verizon is trying to collect ‘early term’ fees despite the fact that I believe my contract is up. Is there a pending action I could join? Is anyone else having this problem?

I live in Brooklyn and recently signed up with Verizon for a two year contract. Their service is supposed to cover the entire of New York City. During the 15 day trial period I had no problems with there service in my apartment. However since then I have not been able to use my cell phone in my apartment rendering it impossible for me to conduct my business at home. Do I have a legal right to cancell my contract without fees if they can’t provide the service that was promised?

To whom it may concern, I’ve been with verizon for almost 2 years. Verizon sent me a bill, I was over charged because I went over my minutes. I called them and asked how could this be, I only use 120 minutes tops each month. So they said if I switch to their National plan that they would drop those charges. So I agreed to this, but I wished I thought about it because I was on the national plan but switched down to a cheaper plan. So it looks like they where drumming up more money out me. To top it all off my phone started to act up on the charger. So I went for a newer phone. They rooked me again by making me sign a two year contract. To top this off I picked up the V265 motorola, it is a camera phone and can play mp3’s as well. I bought up the software (mobile phone tools) to transfer pictures and mp3’s. but guess what it will not let me. Verizon did something to their phone!!! So I called verizon and had asked about their phone. They said that they do not sell cables for the phone and don’t support it. I had said I bought the software from motorola and they support the phone in their software, and stumpped them. Then they asked what cable I’m using, and I said the one you sold me for the v730 motorola. They said it was the wrong one. I said no it is not the wrong one because I looked it up on the web and said it was the same cable as the v730, and stumpped them again and on their heels and into a corner. So I asked them if they had a lockout on these features. They had said yes, then I asked them to take them off. They said I would have to talk to motorola and gave me their number. So I called, emailed several times and no responses!!! So I took it on myself to look up info on this phone and carrier, and found out some answers. Verizon has put a block on the phone in seems edit the software. They seem to like to cripple their phones so you have to pay them even more money. I did figure out how to beat them at this, I went in and changed some of the settings in the seems to allow these features back on the phone and verizon dosen’t make a red penny out of it at all. I do like to see these assholes!!! go down for all the greif they cause others!!!! If you would like to see your phone unlocked go to motomodders.com and here you will find info and your answers to unlock your phone.

I was a customer of 360 Alltel from Aug 1996 thru Jan 2002 and Verizon Wireless from Jan 2002 thru April 2005. Where do I find the forms that I need to file for benefits? This has been such a long process.

I just signed up with Verizon for a two year contract. Almost immediately - my bill received overcharges. I have spent hours trying to get this resolved. They do not show incoming calls - yet most of these I dispute and would have to have a subpoena to get the information. cingular wireless puts this on their bill.
Also - the contract is written that I have to pay $175 to get out of the contract, or $226 to stay with the contract. The solution they offered was a bait and switch. Upgrade my plan and they would credit the overages. Yet - I dispute the number of minutes they are charging!
My alternatives - have my credit destroyed, pay $3000 for an attorney, I have filed complaints and will continue to do so and urge everyone to call your Congressperson and Senator about this abuse.
Better Business Bureau, Consumer Complaints, FTC and your elected officials - Send letters now and encourage others to do so.
If anyone is part of a class action suit - please get in contact with me.

I was with Verizon for several years. I kept complaining that my 3 phones didn’t get calls at my house and to make calls we had to walk down the street. Verizon kept saying that every month I had to press *223. Then one day I tried to call the police 6 times in 7 minutes pressing 911 on my Verizon phone while driving over 10 miles. All my phone said over the screen was “911 is for emergency calls only.” My life was on the line. I finally called Verizon and complained. They took it like a joke. Then one night I got a flat tire and tried to use my phone. I couldn’t get a signal. I’m disabled, was really upset. The next day I called to cancel my service. Then they said the only thing they could do was send someone out to my house to see if I had a signal. I took that as an insult. Cancelled and ended paying them $525.00 to get out of the contract. That was Dec. 2003. All that time of complaining and almost losing my life over it and that’s what I get?

I bought a family package for 2 phones. My husband had a chain saw accident shortly after and was out of work for months. We could no longer afford the cell phone service so I called to cancel it. apparently, I signed a contract that required that I retain Verizon services for 6 months. I asked if I could suspend the services and resume them when we could afford it again. They agreed. When I called to reinstate services, I was told that I could not continue and would have to pay the fines because we had not followed the contract outline. So, not only can I maintain cell phone service–I also owe nearly 700.00 in charges for nothing. I feel that I was not properly informed of the depth of bondedness or the terms of the agreement. Verizon refused to work with me in any way to mediate the issue. I can understand having such strict and inflated contract requirements for a house–but for a cell phone? This seems very extreme to me. I should be able to return the merchandise if I’m not happy with it. Furthermore, during the time that we did have service, the phones did not even work most of the time. Verizon promised complete coverage of the area where we lived, but I usually had to drive 10 miles from my home in order to get any reception. I feel that Verizons business practices are extreme and entrapping. I hope there is a class action lawsuit pending in regard to this issue. Otherwise, I will have to start my own because I feel so cheated.

I signed a contract with Verizon Wireless in Dec. of 2004 for my wireless phone service. The contract provided for a monthly rate for regular phone service, and a rate for text messaging service. The rate when I signed the contract was $0.02 per message received. This is an important part of the service plan, and one of the reasons I signed up for the service, because I forward emails from my business email address to my wireless phone so I can be notified of an emergency in my office. Verizon raised the rate of incoming text messages on August 1, 2005 from $0.02 per message to $0.10 per message, a 500% increase. My bill went from about $6.00 for text messages to $76.00 for text messages. This rate change negatively alters the contract I have with Verizon, and the plan is now costing me much more than I had agreed to for my normal use.
This rate change affects thousands of Verizon Wireless Customers. They are also trying to get thier customers to sign up for a $9.99/month text message package that includes up to 1,000 messages, but this is also not what I signed up for when I signed the contract with Verizon. Most months I don’t receive 1,000 messages, and the $0.02 per message is a negligible amount.
I am now looking for a way to file a class action lawsuit against Verizon on behalf of the thousands of clients that are now being ripped off.

I got 2 phones with free mobile to mobile
Cost $105 per month
Verison charged 350 the first month, agreed this was a mistake, promised to remove mistake.
Same deal for 4 months.
The bottom line.
$1450~ alleged bill, credit report falsely filed, and I’m MAD AS HE**

I am trying to get out of my contract with Verizon, but we are stuck since our family plan with 3 lines on it have different termination date. For us as a family to get out and move on we have to pay $175.00 termination fees each. Do you know of any recourse available for us. One of the phones contract expires Dec 2005, I asked if we can cancel now and I was told to wait for Dec, 2005 or I will pay $175.00. I cannot certainly wait for the other two as they are expiring July, 2006 and Dec, 2006. How these contract termination got out of wack I do not know. We did complain a lot of poor service, equipment problems and overcharging. I think each time they fix(pretend to fix the problem as these still exist we just learned to live with it) for each phone they restart the contract.
If you find a lawsuit that I can join, please let me know.

Verizon wireless is charging outrageous fees for prepaid customers, and their customer service reps. are rude and obnoxious! I’ve been a good-payimg customer for 2 years, and I intend to proceed further with action.
