Alaska State Employees Association Health Benefit Trust filed a lawsuit against Pfizer Inc. and its subsidiary Warner-Lambert Co. over its off-label marketing scheme of its top selling epilepsy drug Neurontin.
The lawsuit, filed last week in U.S. District Court in Newark, N.J., contends that Pfizer made billions of dollars of fraudulent revenues by promoting Neurontin as a treatment for a variety of disorders not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Pfizer, the world’s largest pharmaceutical company, plead guilty in May and agreed to pay more than $430 million to settle all criminal charges and civil liabilities related to the illegal and fraudulent promotion of unapproved uses for Neurontin, the Justice Department said in a statement.
The ASEA lawsuit seeks damages on behalf of health plans and others that have paid for Neurontin for so-called “off-label” uses since Jan. 1, 1994.

I have been on Neurotin since 1998. Recently this last year I have been experiencing memory loss, mood swings, splurred vision, dont know where i’m at most the time, talking nonsence, and so on with many other problems. I brought these up to many doctors and have been told that its every thing would be alright, not to worry about it. some doctors didnt believe me and accused me of wanting more medications. At this time i was on many medications already such as vioxx, celebrex,, neurotin, depakote, amitriptyline traZODONE oxycodone 10\650, diazepam, ranitidine, lipitor, furosemide, lexapro, axert, albuterol, cyclobenzaprine, asprinazmacort, and an epiPEN injection. Like i really want more medications. not to mention the oxycotin and others. After being tired of not getting anywhere with doctors I decided to check out this web page. If anyone has any information that would be helpful, please e mail me. I am currently searching for a lawyer in West Virginia and Massachuttes. I have been unsuccessful in both states and in and out of hospitals still till today. Any info would be helpful to my family and myself. Readme26505@yahoo.com

I am 49 years old and have been taking neurontin for nearly two year (300 mg., 3 times a day.) It was prescribed to relieve nerve pain (neuropathy). I have experienced dizziness, light-headedness, constant fatigue and forgetfulness. I am looking for a suitable, safe alternative to neurotin. My doctor tells me that the drug is safe. However, after hearing about all of the problems associated with it, I no longer believe that it is safe.

So what can be done so That I do not end up like Bob not know who he is from day to day
I was given Neurontin for sleep apnea , but it has made things worse for me, whith drymouth and worsened apnea. I am trying now to get off it since I have been on it for 5 weeks with no help. It was suppose to sedate me , but the seadtion has caused my tongue to be dry and seems to make things worse for me .
This has not been proven for insomnia or from what I am reading is expected to actually worsen apne and cause more problems . I am very angry

This is Robert Saunier once again. I filled this out last night in desperation looking for a link to some of the symptoms I have had and tried to see if it was related to Neurontin or the generic name Gabapentin.
I was diagnosed as having sleep apnea , but one of an unexplained nature which is mostly silent . I was fitted with a CPAP mask and could not quite adapt to the confinement and so Neuontin was prescribed due to low side effects and the doctor told me I could get off it at any time easily . My wife was there to witness this . I was told it would keep me down and it did just. The first night I took 1 300mg pill and it glued me to the bed, but when I got up during the night I stumbled almost fell was dizzy and disorientated. My apnea symptoms were masked with still having awakenings . The doctor told me to increase it and for some nights it worked then would stop. It did help me use the mask just a few nights . I noticed that in the morning I felt great without headaches just a few days . Then I found I couldn’t get to sleep at all and the sedating effect was lost. The next day my memory was bad and when typing I would mix letters with poor coordination. I seemed to be emotionless and numb . This is a low dose and I can’t imagine doing as my doctor left me with taking up to 4 a night at bed then taking two more in the evening or up to 1800 mg . My apnea has worsened in the time I have been on it with my tongue seemingly dry and even sleeping on my side my awakening are worse which was better before and concluded by my sleep study . I have a combination of apnea and a sleep disorder and this has made it both worse in the 6 weeks I have taken it . I asked the sleep specialist specific questions at my last visit about would it inhibit rem sleep he said “I don’t know” . I then asked about getting off and he recommended me take more and that “getting off would probably be difficult” , which is not what he said before. I asked if sedating medications like sleeping pills and Neurontin could worsen apnea and he said there was no correlation but obviously sedating the tongue during apnea or relaxing the muscles can not help. I am appalled that he could say this was safe when he knew so little about it and how it worked . It seems he has a license to prescribe anything untested with me the clinical study without my approval. The FDA needs to enforce the intended use of this drug and not allow doctors to use it unless proved safe and effective for the intended use. I am praying I will get off this soon with no residual side effects.
If you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and can’ get used to the mask like me because that’s normal please do not use this drug to relax you or like the doctor in this case said it would keep me down. It will wear off and your problems will be more than your apnea like in my case.

What to do?
My doc prescribed me Gabapentin [Neurontin] for chronic pain.
I have developed a “slightly numb” area at the left temple.
Should I take it? Should I sue someone? I don’t know whjere to start.
I am in Canada…
