Pfizer Suspected Of Illegally Marketing Neurontin

Olympia, WA – The Washington state Attorney General’s Office is leading a national investigation into whether Pfizer illegally marketed Neurontin, an epilepsy medication, for “off-label” uses — meaning for uses that the FDA has not approved. Assistant Attorney General David Waterbury is leading the investigation on behalf of 47 states and the District of Columbia.

Doctors can legally prescribe drugs for off-label purposes, but it’s illegal for drug companies to market them that way. Washington Medicaid spending on the epilepsy drug increased more than tenfold from 1996 to 2000.

I was on Neurontin for 4 and a half 5 years, 1200mg a day. I have Bi-polor. I was also on other meds for depression and panic. Thank god I was on the other ones along with this or I don’t think I would be here to write this. While I was on the Neurontin I had ‘break-thru’ manic episodes numerous times and my Neurontin was always increased. I did try to kill myself 2 times while on it and was put in the hospital.

While on the Neurontin I would get terrible pains in my muscles that I ended up going off the Neurontin for and was put on Lithium. I had side effects with the Lithium and desided that I could deal with the pains vs the side effects of the lithium and went back on the neurontin.

I then watched the program on the neurontin whistle blower and paniced and went off it all together. Sience I have gone off of it I have had nothing but trouble. I am sick all the time, I have kidney and liver problems, and I have had what feels like shcoks in my head, and constant headachs, plus I am tired all the time.

I am sick and tired of living this way and would like to know if there is any relief out there.

I am looking for an attorney to take my case. If anyone knows of anyone could you please e-mail me.

brhcomp@yahoo.com

Thank you so very much for listening.

I have been on the max dose of neurotin for approx. 3 years, for chronic back pain. It was prescribed by my psychiatrist,md. She is no longer living in my state. Now the pain management dr, refuses to write the script. I am on several other meds. I don’t know what to think about all this.

Where does one start, when they themselves can’t explain the terrible blackhole that is felt from the time they put their feet on the floor in the mornings. I am 54 years old, with a wonderful husband of 34 years and to wonderful adult children. We are not rich, but live comfortably. I was a mortgage banker for 12 years, moved north, and owned my own child care for about 18 years. 21/2 years ago, my child care does had come to an end, because of the depression and anxiety it had caused. After pleading for help from my M.D. he adviced me to consult a psychiotrist. I have been going to this man for about 3 years now. He has had me on paxil, effexor, and last but not least NEURONTIN. I was changed from paxil, to 150 mg. of effexor and for quite a while 3600 mg. of NEURONTIN a day. I have withdrawn myself from the effexor which was hell. I then starting bringing myself down off the NEURONTIN. These feelings are unexplainable. Yes, I believe the Neurontin has only caused me to dive deeper into darkness. It is uncontrollable. Thank God, I have a family who is so caring. My husband is at his wits with trying to run our business and yet afraid to leave me alone. It is fits of rage, depression, anxiety, almost convulsive. I am truly a happy, person. I have so many friends, and no problem getting along with people. I am so fortunate to have so many caring people around me. But, I am truly so scared of when the next episode will hit. The only thing I get any relief from is Zanex. I only take the smallest mil. of that. which is 0.25 mg. I try to split them alot. I have tried to totally stop the Neurontin too and that is worse yet. Course at this point I don’t know whether the blackness is any worse with it or without it. I am going to try splitting the 600 mg. of Neurontin in half and see if this will work. I have gone on and on. I really don’t know if any one will understand what I am trying to get across. I am so scared. It seems like there is no where to turn at this point. I truly hope someone can give me some advise. I have so much I want to live for, but not this way. I hope someone out there can

I STARTED TAKING NEUROTIC 6 YEARS AGO FOR PAIN AT AN OLD SURGICAL AREA THAT RESULTED IN MULTI ABCESSES. IT HAS RESULTED IN THE FOLLOWING

1. FATTY LIVER THAT ALMOST TOOK MY ENTIRE ABDOMEN, CIRROSIS OF THE LIVER

LOTS OF PAIN. UNABLE TO STAND OVER

5 MINUTES. I WAS UNABLE AND STILL UNABLE TO DO MY GROCERY SHOPPING. I

CANNOT STAND LONG ENOUGH TO SING A HYMN

AT THE CHURCH.

2. ANGER SO SEVERE THAT NO DOCTOR WANT TO SEE ME.

3. I WOULD BE PRISON NOW IF I HAD A GUN

AND PHYSICALLY BEATING UP A MAN THAT WAS VISITING ME.

4. I AM UNABLE TO TOLERATE ALMOST NO STRESS. I HAVE STOPPED WATCHING TELEVISION. I EVEN GOT UPSET WITH THE TV SHOW I LOVE LUCY. I STARTED CRYING BECAUSE RICKY WAS GOING TO FIND OUT ABOUT LUCY’ BEHAVIOR. PRETTY SAD HUH

5, MY DIABETIC IS SO OUT OF CONTROL, IT TAKES OVER 700.00 DOLLARS A MONTH JUST TO CONTROL MY DIABETIC.

THIS MEDICATION IS TERRRIBLE. I HAVE NEVER TAKEN ANY MOOD ALTERING DRUG. I AM USALLY A MILD MANNERED PERSON, AND IT WOULD TAKE A LOT TO GET ME TO GET UPSET.

6 P. Chadwick March 13, 2004 at 6:29 am

Well, here I am again. I still am asking for more info on this hellish medication. I have read over and over everyone’s comments and still am trying to do more research.

I went to my counselor, took all of this info with me, trying to get some answers from her. She had no answers, not knowing enough about this drug. She said I SHOULD NOT TAKE THIS INFO TO MY SHRINK, BECAUSE, QUOTE: THE MEDICAL CIRCLE BELIEVES ALL OF US ARE A BUNCH OF CRACKPOTS. Cool, Huh? We are all pleading for help, and we get to be called CRACKPOTS. I have an appointment with the Psychiotrist on Monday. I really don’t know where to start with him, knowing I am going to be called a crackpot. I can see that some us are not denieing we are bi-polor or just depressed, anxiety people, but this drug has only made it worse. Is there anyone that has come off this drug successfully? God, I want off. Can someone out there give me a answer. Again, I am so scared. What do I say to this DR. How do I get away from him? Are there any Dr’s who will really help us, without thinking we are crackpots. We can’t all be out of our minds. I want you all to know, just being able to find this site has helped me so much, knowing I am not the only one who is experiencing this hell. Thank you all for your help. Any feedback I can get will be so helpful.

I was put on nuerontin 8 months ago for chronic pain. I am also on Avinza (morphine). I have been cutting myself for the last few months and going thru uncontrollable mood swings. I found this site and stopped the nuerontin on my own…and I am so much better. This drug almost cost me my life on at least 3 occasions. I know I have some problems..but the nuerontin made it much worse..to the point of suicide. It has cost me my family, job and almost my marriage. I know live with the scars from cutting myself with a razor blade. I am sure it helps more people than it hurts..but if you get like I did..stop taking nuerontin. My doctor took me off the medication that really worked for me because of a famous radio show host who was abusing it (oxycontin). So now I am on morphine…but never again on nuerontin. Everyone please be carefull with this drug…it can kill.

I am a doctor and I missed the story about nerontin on dateline. Does anyone have a copy of the show so I can discuss this with my patients? My goal is to educate my patients to the hazards of pharmeceuticals

i have been on neurontin for almost a year,it has helped with my back spasms. i have experienced speech, hearing and alot of what is mentioned here. leg numbness returned approx. 1mo. after my back surgery felt defeated. i do stutter now. and if i decrease my neurontin i have trouble functioning. but i am also on 2 20mg of oxycontin, vicodin 5.5 for pain, 100 zoloft, flexeril at night, and premarin (just had full hysterectomy due to fibroid tumors) i have been put on disability because i have degenerative joint disease. these medicines help me. and i do believe as a whole they do help me. even though the side effects have made me feel less then what i was. i am greatful to be home with my children. let alone be here with them. i sympathize with those who are struggling with this drug. but i am still trusting my doctors advice, with my treatment and god with my acceptance of life the way it is now, in hopes i will get somewhat better. as i know djd is not ever going away but will continue to worsen. i am hopeful to keep on going my children deserve me to do this and i will. bless all who are hangin in there. and good luck in being well.

I suffered a spinal chord injury on july 3/2002,and as a result had severe muscle spasticity and clonis.I’ve been on hydrocodone for the entire time and alsp tizanidine. After 21 months i had a baclofen pump installed for muscle spasticity and spasms, but i still had chronic lower back pain and a burning sensation in my lower back and legs,my doctor prescribed neurontin for nerve pain at 100 mg 3x a day and i’ve never felt more relaxed and my pain level has been reduced to the point where i’ve gone from 50 mg of lortab to 10 mg a day,and expect to cut out the hydrocodone all together.I am now able to work out at the gym and expect to walk without a cane in the near future. From what i’ve seen in negative feedback on this drug is the massive doses people are on in conjunction with all the other medication they’re on.I find that 300 mg a day seems to be sufficient for my pain, thank god i have a doctor that starts with small doses to see if the drug will benefit me,I also shy away from doctors that prescribe multiple prescriptions for treating the same symptoms, sometimes drugs may have adverse reactions when combined with other drugs the manufacturers and fda never foresaw. To date i have had no ill side effects from neurontin.

14 Gail May 13, 2004 at 12:30 pm

I was put on Neurontin for “pain syndrome” re DeQuervain’s (tendonitis/thumb). I knew I did not have pain syndrome, I had a severe case of deQuervain’s (subsequently corrected by surgery) but one has to do what the doctors say. I began at 100, slowly increasing to 500. At 200, things began changing–I was not “aware” I was behind the wheel of a car…I could not judge where the curb was when parking…I could not put a cohesive sentence together, etc. Well, I got OFF of the drug slowly under doctor’s supervision and the symptoms from same disappeared. I am one of the rare people, apparently, who have severe side effects from this type of drug/family of drugs. NOW my regular neurologist and my ortho surgeon both are aware that this drug ain’t all it’s cracked up to be, and does have side effects in many people.

My daughter’s father died in his sleep 2 weeks ago. They say he died of natural causes and we are waiting for the toxology report to come back. His mother is a nurse and she went through his meds and found neurotin. In the Pill Book, sudden death is listed as a RARE side effect. As I read more, I see there is more to this drug then we thought. Did I mention he was only 32? If anyone can direct me to any concrete research I would be appriciative.

16 Michelle May 14, 2004 at 11:33 am

I have to say I am very concerned and sympathetic with what everyone here is going through, but I do caution you to be sure that Neurontin is the true cause of your problems. Those of you who mentioned teenage children committing suicide, should realize suicide is NOT uncommon in teenagers and there are a lot of reasons for it. I have been taking Neurontin now for nearly 4 years. A very low dose of 300 mg per day. I suffer from Restless leg syndrome, which left me so tired that in one month I had 3 car accidents due to falling asleep at the wheel. The sleep tests revealed that my leg movement was extremely frequent and severe enough that it was not allowing me to reach my deep sleep. Thus I was always tired. It took me years before I could convince my doctor that my being tired was not due to depression. I would sleep from friday when I got home from work until monday morning. I constantly turned down opportunities to do things with friends. Finally seeing a neurologist, being diagnosed and using neurontin made me a new person. I could never live without it! Please be careful what you are blaming on a drug you probably know nothing about and think about all the other meds or circumstances your loved one or you were facing at the time.

I just learned of the class action case against neurontin. I was prescribed neurontin for biplor and caused a manic episode.

Can someone tell me if the case is settled that is reguarding the illegal marketing of Neurontin with respect to bipolar. If it has not been settled, who do I contact?

18 Allison Gallant May 20, 2004 at 7:48 am

I was prescribed very high doses of Neurontin for A Typical Tri-geminal Neuralgia two years ago. During that time, I suffered greatly with anger, fatigue, depression, and memory loss. I took myself off the medication two months ago, as I was knew Neurontin was not helping my illness. Shortly after being off the medicine, my disposition changed greatly. I was deeply saddened and disgusted of the news that of the claim and the settlement against the makers of Neurontin. I had not been aware the drug was the subject of a Dateline program. I am sorry I did not know of the simialr problems others were having. As well, I am sad my Neuralgist, apparently was unaware of it either. Does anyone know if any other pending lawsuits against Parke-Davis/Warner-Lambert Co. ?

I am sorry for those that are simiarly situated.

Thank you,

Allison Gallant

I was prescribed neurontin for pain, 300mg 9 times a day in November of 97. As of last year, after struggling to survive, I reduced the amount to 3 times a day. But in November of 2003 I was dignosed with cancer. I have survived thanks to my dear God. I can only say that there is no cancer in my family, therefore, I blame “The Neurontin and their creators irresponsible desire to make money”.

20 Dr. Rick May 27, 2004 at 7:14 am

Our biggest problem is that we are putting our faith in drugs rather than in the healing power that God placed within us. We tend to reach for a pill or potion rather than hit our knees and pray.

Do you think the drug companies really care about your health? Just look at what happened with Neurontin. Phizer was warned by the FDA not to promote “off-label” prescribing because there was absolutely no evidence to suppport their claims. They ignored the FDA and decided to market the drug for “off label” prescribing. Why would they do that? Could it be that they would make more money?

What happened? Phizer was fined $400 million dollars for disregarding the FDA’s warning. Would you be willing to lose $400 million if you were able to make over a billion? Absolutely! Why then did the FDA only fine them $400 million? If you are making a billion, $400 million is just a slap on the wrist with no hard consequences. So, why didn’t the FDA fine them more severely and teach them a lesson? Could it be due to the FDA having ties to the drug companies?

The biblical principle still holds true. To judge something, look at the fruit it produces. An apple tree produces apples, an orange tree produces oranges. What does our current “health” care system produce? Health? Ha! In a recent study by the World Health Organization, they found the US spent more on health care than any other country, but ranked 37th! Health comes from within! B.J. Palmer, DC, PhC said “If health truly came in bottle, there would be a shortage of bottles.”

“We have not lost faith, but have transferred it from God to the medical profession.” – George Bernard Shaw

It sounds like I am one of the few that didn’t have a problem with the adverse effects of Neurontin. Granted the first two weeks were extremely rough getting used to the medication because of drowsiness, mild hallucinations, upset stomach, and oversleeping daily. I was diagnosed for RSD in my knee due to a very traumatic injury to my right leg and I only stopped taking it after one year because it was no longer working to treat my RSD, which now I am taking 12mg of Gabitril daily. For reference I was taking 3000 mg of Neurontin daily. Once I got used to the temporary side effects I felt great. Neurontin can be treated for pain cases as well as psychological problems. I won’t file into a class action lawsuit for Neurontin!

Some of you might know me……..I’ve been here before.

Neurontin lawsuits are starting to proceed.

I have a new email address. It is debraparksmail@sbcglobal.net

Please read my posts………I think they are from November 2003.

If anyone wants to join in on a legal battle against Pfizer & Neurontin, please contact me.

I have been taking neurtonton since 1999 fir sever sensory neuropathy. During which time has help up until latley. Now that I am under the care of a Physc. he has up’d my dose to 300mg four times a day. It has seem to help with my neuropathy but increased my manic depression. I am truly upset that we have to find out all the finding of this med. on dateline instead of the manufacturer. What are we suppose to do for our problems.

My 14 year old was given neurontin for RSD after two months of trying to figure out what was wrong. She was given neurontin and within 4 days she stopped walking and loss the use of both her legs. They diagnosed her with guillain barre at the emergency room and gave her immugloglin treatments. After a week in the hospital she was transferred to a rehab center to go through intense physical and occupational therapy. She had many emotional outbursts and wanted to end it all. I thought it was all she was going through. She came home on April 30 2004 after over a month in a rehab to getting her walking again. She was barely walking and fell over alot because of weakness in her legs. With a week of coming home she stopped walking again. We were beside ourselves and called the pediatric neurologist again who informed me that he thought she never had guillain barre and now thought it was a psychological disorder called conversion. With that diagnosis in her file no doctor wanted to touch her. Now what do you do? Being her relentless advocate I finally found a doctor who would see her. She realized that my daughter had been having seizures but didn’t know the cause. I went home with my 14 year old daughter again wheelchair bound on Memorial Day weekend. I started to try to figure out why the mood swings, leg weakness, fatigue, acne, and especially the seizues. I called our Walgreens to talk to the pharmacist. She informed me that the list of side effects was so long that I would have to come in and get the list. Low and behold everything was on there. I immediately took her off the medicine myself and waited for the fallout. Within 4 days my daughter although shakey began walking and by the time she went to see the doctor on Wednesday of that next week she walked in on her own accord. She has (we believe) some lasting problems and don’t know is they are permanent. The bills for all this a over $100,000 dollars so far and still climbing. Pfizer should be responsible for all that they have knowingly caused and the pain and suffering that all these people have gone through. My daughter has gone from a vibrant dance and drama student to an old person who can’t even stand up for more than a half hour without having to lay down. She lost half her eighth grade year, numerous parties, and had to have a tutor to just get her by after being an honor sudent. She has gone through many extremely painful procedures (like a spinal tap with no anestetic in the emergency room) and others. I believe that should not give this to any child under 18 to begin with. Has this ever been tested on children. If not my child unknowingly and unwillingly became a guinea pig. She should be compensated.

My mother got trigemenal shingles 8 years ago. It was the most horrible excruciating disease imaginable. After ‘testing’ over 40 different drugs the Dr. finally put her on Neurontin. She was 86 when she got shingles. She had post-herpatic neuralgia the rest of her life. She died at 93. Without neurontin she would not have lived that long. It did not cure the PHN but at least gave her some comfort. She started at 900 and went on up to 2600 (devided into 3 x a day) she found that any higher and it was no more effective. She did not have side effects other than some drowsiness. All meds are scarey. She had a book for older people “Best Pills/Worse Pill”. Almost every pill there was mentioned as not being good for you and most had the same side effects. I believe that when a person is in terrible pain they will be willing to try anything that will give them some sort of quality of life. Maybe children should not take Neurontin but then should they be taking all the ADD pills that are shoved down their necks. Research everything you can before using a medicine and don’t freak at all the negative points. Check out the pros also. Find a Dr. that listens to what you know about your body. Good luck.

26 R J Wittenberger June 20, 2004 at 1:55 pm

I was prescribed Neurontin the fall of 2002 for RSD in both hands. A condition I was able to get NO help for more than 12 years. My pain level went up & up but no doctor I saw would even believe me when I described my symptoms. One doctor even said, “You realize that you are describing conflicting symptoms don’t you? You can’t have muscle, joint and tendon pain all at the same time. I think you just want drugs.” I was then asked to leave her office.

The pain became unbearable in the fall of 2002 and I went to see a new doctor. He prescribed Neurontin. It worked like a miracle. Although I was tired upon waking in the morning for the first 2 weeks the side effect went away. After about a year and a half the benefit began to wear off so my dosage was increased. However, my doctor was not just going to keep upping my dosage, he wanted to make sure there wasn’t another underlying condition that needed to be addressed. I saw several specialists and all forms of chronic illness were ruled out. I will now be seeking help in the form of acupuncture because unlike some doctors my physician does NOT see this drug as the end all or cure all that others seem to think it is. He does not want me to have to take it for the rest of my life & knows that I feel the same way.

I feel much sympathy for those who have experienced adverse effects from being given this drug for the wrong reasons. But at the same time I feel that you must take a certain amount of responsibility for your own health care or that of a loved one. If you are not made aware of side effects associated with a drug, and all drugs have side effects, you need to ask your doctor or pharmacist for printed information outlining these possible side effects. I have had no side effects except the tiredness I described earlier. AS to folks that have gone off the drug cold turkey, you need to realize that this drug is a narcotic. If you go cold turkey you WILL have withdrawal symptom. That is true of all narcotics even street drugs.

I would also like to say that just because you or someone you know has been prescribed a medication, ANY medication, you (or they) DO NOT have to take it. You have the right to say no. You have the right to a second opinion. If you feel you are not well treated or respected by your doctor your can get another. I did. All the blame does not belong on the heads of doctors or pharmaceutical companies. You are responsible for your own health care choices or for those of a dependant.

Without this drug I would no longer be able to work let alone function normally on a daily bases. Before I took Neurontin by the time I was ready for work in the morning I was in so much pain it was all I could do to force myself to go to work.

I hope that everyone that has been wrongly prescribed this drug can get the help they need and of course any restitution due you but as I stated above please be proactive in your health care choices; ask questions, get second opinions if necessary, always be informed.

Neurotin, the misleading devil drug that cause anger, depression, and so much manic behavior. I need to express my self about this drug that has ruined people’s life. We should fight againist the illegal, misleading information about drugs that are supposed to help and not hurt us.

contact me if you have more info about this dreadful drug (Neurotin)the confusion drug that leaves you with no memory of things you have done or might do.

I live in Ohio and I saw a commercial on television about a law firm handling cases for people who were subcribed neurotin for medical reasons that had nothing to do with epilepsy. This commercial caught my attention because my husband is currently taking this medication for joint pain and has had many of the side effects that I have been reading about. I would like someone to contact me with more information about this drug and it’s side effects. I also would like the names and numbers of any attorneys, and, or law firms, handling such cases. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter….. Sincerely……Cheryl Thornton

I have been on neurontin for 7 1/2 years. I take it for muscle pain “fibroymalgia” and anxiety, depression. I have all the symptoms described and have lived with them for the whole duration. My doctor says it is just normal and would I want this or live in pain again. The answer is no. He never told me it was a narcotic, I asked if it was addicting and the answer was no. I have had three pairs of glasses and not matter if I read or drive or watch t.v. for a time my eyes go blurry and no focus and terribly strained. THey say the anxiety, tired, tremor, fatique, headaches, drowiness, clumsiness, cough, light headedness, constipation and the opposite of that, dificulty speaking and whistling, walk like a drunk and cannot remember-the day before – my typing is hard to my hands they seem do move when I am not asking them to – major weakness, unsteady walking and heart pain. When this pain hits I feel like I am having a heart attack. How can I keep going. This is normal for awhile then goes away, NOT! I think after this amount of time some of them should of subsided. I feel I am dying slowly and the doctor can only say, “want these side-effects or fybromyalgia back. I am the scissors between paper and a large terrifying rock. Please, someone help me. My second opinion was just as rude. You have depression- its in your head!

sincerely, terrified!

33 scott July 19, 2004 at 1:07 pm

Wayne, perhaps you should have an evaluation, sounds like the problem is not anything having to do with nerontin, But I would like to know how you got such a strong opinion that it is. Sound like it may be a plea for forgiveness, more than a statement against neurontin. The medicine is not known to create blackouts such as the language you used led me to believe you had. Alcohol in combination with neurontin may produce this condition at a lower rate usage than neurontin alone. I have taken up to 1800 mg per day with no evident side effects, I am in treatment for clinical depression, it certainly has done nothing to worsen my condition, in my recollection.

Cheers,

scott

My mother-in-law commited suiced a week ago and we are all so devastated. She was taking Neurontin for the neurapathy in her feet following her back surgery. There were no signs that we noticed leading up to this. Her daughter just found her outside late in the day. She had shot herself. She was always so positive and grounded. It is just so uncharacteristic of her to do something like that. She loved her children and grandchildren SO MUCH. We just recently heard something on t.v. about Neurontin being linked to suiced. Maybe this is the answer we have been looking for because we just want to know WHY. We are awaiting toxocology report. Good luck to all of you out there. This drug is bad news from what I have read here…

I am widowed. My husband was prescribed Neurontin and when it didn’t make him better, they increased the dosage… when we couldn’t afford it, the doctor gave him the samples provided by Pfizer’s sales reps. My husband became very uncharacteristicly hostile and commited suicide. I wish that I had this information when he became so hostile, I would have flushed those pills down the toilet where they belong.

I was prescribed neurontin also, when it didn’t help my pain, I quit taking it. Too bad my husband had faith in the drug company’s claims.

Neurontin has been a lifesaver for me, literally. I had a serious facial injury in 2000, and ended up with a crushed infraorbital nerve because of botched surgery. The intense pain and burning sensation were to the point of being unbearable. Until my injury and the botched surgery happened, I could not believe that anyone could be in so much pain that he/she would consider suicide as a way out. Then, all of a sudden, I was one of the people contemplating suicide.

Fortunately I found a pain management specialist that started me on Neurontin, 3000 mg. daily, and later added 300 mg. Topomax. The Neurontin and Topomax combined have given 100% relief from the intense burning, while other meds take care of the extreme pain. If I reduce either the Neurontin or the Topomax, the intense burning returns, so it is the right combination in the right dosage.

I am a strong advocate of Neurontin for certain types of pain, even though it is off-label. However, I was told ahead of time that it was off-label and I was given a choice to either take it or not. Under the circumstances I chose to take it. There are other medications that are be prescribed off-label to which I am adamantly opposed.

I am totally over whelmed by what I have just read. I was prescribed nuerontin about a month ago due to neck injury following a car wreck. I had only been on the drug a couple of weeks when i saw an advertisement about it. I called 800# and needless to say I stopped taking the drug after finding that it caused depression and suicidal thoughts. In the short time I took the drug I had several symptoms described in the info. I have read. I can’t believe that me doctor was co irrispondsible. I have since switched doctors because I no longer trusted him after he gave me such a dangerous drug.

I will never understand anyone who takes any drugs, herbs, or supplements without first READING about them. For everyone here you have a world of resources at your fingertips. Even if a doctor prescribes it… READ ABOUT IT FIRST! BEFORE YOU FILL THE PRESCRIPTION! You will find more quality information from real people with real side effects and you can see common problems and at least be warned.

Every drug has a purpose, but taking soemthing that you have no idea what it is for because “a doctor gave it to you and they must know what they are doing” is NEVER the right answer. Take care of your body and it will take care of you.

And even this drug has its positive stories. Major drug companies and corrupted or lazy doctors are to blame for this problem… don’t blame the drug. I also feel it is every person’s responsibility to read before you consume.

Been taking Neurontin for three months with no problem, no depression, and no suicidal thoughts. I believe it’s a bunch of hype from over-emotional people misplacing blame.

I have been prescribed Neurontin for many years. I had a tumor in my sacreum and it was not removed for ten years. The Neurontin has been the only pain reliever that I can count on. All other perscrible medications like vicadin are habit forming and considered a narcardic. Neurontin by it self can be very effective without the side affects I am reading here in this discussion. I strongly urg you all to reavaluate the side effects your are experiencing as a result of the combination of drugs you are taking. Make an appointment with your doctor for a Consultation meeting, different from I have a cold, or flue syptoms appointment. Let the appointment setter know to note that you are going to be there to re avaluate the medications you are on. I urg you all to pull off the internet discriptions of your drugs.

There is one thing I am sure of doctors do not have the time to keep up on all the drugs, combination of drugs side effects. WE have to be a PARTICIPANT in the management of our health!

I have been taking Neurontin for over a 1-1/2 yr. and within the last six months have started having inexplicable swelling and pain in my ankles, lower legs, knees. This gets severe and then gets better then gets bad again. It was an off-label use for pain in my neck and upper extremities after an accident. Please contact me if you are a Texas or Houston, TX attorney handling this type of litigation. I understand there is a class action and want to know if it is too late to file a claim. Thank you.

I have neuropathy and have been taking neurontin for almost 3 years now, I have a lot of pain in my feet and hands. The neurontin does seem to be the only thing that works with Topamax and Tramadol. I have not heard anything on this class action suit, only that it was affecting people with some kind of a cemical inbalance, is that true or am I way off? Can someone fill me in on this, I have seen nothing on TV just word of mouth. Thanks.

My daughter has been on neurontin for over three years for RSD. Is there a class action suit. What is our recourse?

48 Sandy Jones November 27, 2004 at 8:47 pm

I was prescribed neutrotin for hot flashes and I’m also on Femara because of breast cancer. The last month or so I have been experiencing periods of depression. I can’t decide if it is because of the body & muscle aches from the Femara or Neurotin. I discussed this with my pharmacist. He doesn’t think the muscle aches are caused from either medicine. I’m taking effexor – anti-depressant… I need the neutrotin to control my hot flashes. I’ve been told there is nothing else on the market that does not contain estrogen for hot flashes. If the neutrotin is causing my depressive moods, what else can I do?

I haven’t been told or seen any class action suits because of this medicine, but I’ve been told my cancer was caused from Premarin. THat’s why I can’t have anything that contains estrogen. My cancer was estrogen related. Should I try to sue the pharmacy company? How many other women have gotten cancer because of that drug?

49 Teresa Mikeal December 6, 2004 at 7:07 pm

My name is Teresa. I have had trouble being sleepy (sleepy and can’t sleep) and tired and depressed after taking Neurotin. It made me nervous and ill to everyone. I’ve been off of it since

August, but I still feel like I’m taking it or still have the side affects from it. I have insomnia, terribe. It started when I took Neurotin in Oct. 4, 2002. I wished I would have never taken this drug. Can someone tell me how long the effects of this drug will last.
