Pfizer, the world’s largest drugmaker, last week warned doctors about the increased risk of hyperglycemia and diabetes in patients taking its antipsychotic drug Geodon.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration requested that a warning be added to the prescribing information for all so-called atypical anti-psychotics regarding the risk of hyperglycemia and diabetes, Pfizer said.

Pfizer, in the letter, said the new warning labels advise in part that hyperglycemia, in some cases extreme, has been reported in patients taking atypical anti-psychotics.
