U.S. Parents File Lawsuits Against GlaxoSmithKline Over Paxil

September 10th, 2004 · 1 Comment

Parents of children and adolescents who were prescribed the antidepressant drug Paxil are filing lawsuits against Europe’s largest drug maker GlaxoSmithKline following claims the company concealed information about the safety and effectiveness of Paxil in treating young people with depression.

The lawsuits are the latest of legal battles for GSK.

In August the company agreed to pay $2.5 million to settle charges from New York Attorney General’s office that it had suppressed data showing Paxil increased suicidal thoughts and actions in children and adolescents.

My boyfriend of 5yrs is currently taking paxil. He has no insurance or much money so it is hard for us to afford it. He stopped taking it back in march-2005 and had experienced serious withdrawl simptoms such as aggressiveness and being very easily agitated and more. As a result he had gotten into a bar fight on april 1st and was arrested. He is awaiting trial and being charged with 2 felonies - assault with a deadly weapon & bodily injury. The D.A. of L.A. county wants 2 yrs in prison. The victom of this incident thank god is ok. I am sure that such behavior was instigated because of the simptoms my boyfriend was experiencing at the time.Could you please help me with som advise as to what we should do.
