Bali Explosions: Deadly Bomb Destroyed Nightclub; Separate Blast Near U.S. Consulate

Jakarta, Indonesia–At least 54 people have been killed and several injured, in a series of explosion on the tourist island of Bali, were a popular nightclub was destroyed. A Second bomb detonated near the island’s U.S. consular office, no casualties in that blast.

The U.S. embassy warned about possible attacks and closed Sept. 10 for six days. The United States and others fear Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation, is becoming a safe haven for terrorist networks including al-Qaida and Jemaah Islamiyah, a group said to be seeking to set up an Islamic state in South Asia.
