Robert Roesler, 61, filed a lawsuit against Pfizer Inc., the world’s largest pharmaceutical company, alleging its anti-inflammatory drug Celebrex caused him to suffer an irregular heartbeat, New York Daily News reported.
The lawsuit, filed on Friday in Nassau Supreme Court, comes in the wake of Merck’s decision to pull its arthritis drug Vioxx from all worldwide markets after a study confirmed that it increases a patients’ risk of heart attack and stroke.
Vioxx and Celebrex are members of the Cox-2 inhibitor class of drugs, which are used for the reduction of pain and inflammation caused by arthritis.

I took celebrex for approximately three years. I experienced shortness of breath, and chest pains which led to having quadruple bypass surgery. Is there a class action lawsuit against celebrex for those side effects.
Thomas Conry // Nov 21, 2004 at 12:12 am
I have been taking Celebrex for a long time or at least for the past two years or more. I also had shortness of breath and took a stress test and failed it. I ended up in hospital with open heart surgery. I had to have a 4 way bypass. I have never had heart or problems like this before? I dont know if Celebrex had something to do with this or not? I quit taking this medication because I also think it had something to do with raising my blood pressure? Has anyone else had any of these problems taking Celebrex?
Don // Nov 29, 2004 at 5:42 pm
I was prescribed Celebrex over two years ago, then it was increased to two a day. One month later, I had a massive heart attack. I have no history of heart problems, nor does my family, I feel it was a result of Celebrex. I would advise anyone taking it to see if they might find an alternative.

I have been taking Celebrex for about 6 years. Lately, I have noticed a shortness of breath and would be interested in any information concerning this drug, its side effects, etc. Thanks, hopefully something good will come of this information sharing.

I was taken Celebrex and experience vomiting of blood and shortness of breath due to heart palpitations. My blood pressure was uncontrolable and now I still experience highs and lows with my pressure. Is there a class act lawsuit against Celebrex?

I was diagnosed for a slip disc in April 2001 and prescribed Celebrex by an orthopedic surgeon.I was on it for a couple of months but it didn’t help and was prescribed Vioxx. In November of 2002 I felt a tightening of my chest with palpitations and chest pain and I refered to a cardiologist for a full physical examination. He did the relevant tests and remarked that there was nothing wrong with my heart. However in Jan of 2003 I suffered a major heart attack with 3 blocks , one of which was stented. I believe my heart attack could have being the side effect of either CELEBREX OR VIOXX.I would appreciate if anyone could inform my of similar effects. I am also interested to find out if I have a case against Pfizer.I can be contacted at petmary@tm.net.my

Recently took celebrex for post-surgical inflammation. Skin eruptions on face appeared after 2 weeks. Tendonitis appeared in both hands and feet after 3 weeks. Systolic blood pressure jumped 50 points after 4 weeks use. Make your problems known to the FDA- file a medwatch report at fda.org, better statistics and warnings about daily monitoring are needed for those for whom this product may be a poison.

I took Celebrex, prescribed by a doctor in Germany, for a brief period of time to cope with some disk pain in my neck that was radiating down one arm. Upon taking Celebrex I felt heart palpitations and my appearance was flushed. I obviously stopped taking it, but then had shortness of breath and felt faint. I also began to wake at night fighting for breath. I went to see my doctor who was alarmed at the heart rate and I was immediately sent to hospital. They quickly established that my ECG was highly irregular and off I went to IT. It transpired that one of the nodes around my heart had stopped working and only half of my heart was pumping (at about 40 bpm in the day and around 20 at night). I spent three weeks in hospital and the cardiologists did every conceivable test. What they found was an otherwise healthy heart (I am a non smoker, not overweight and an avid cyclist) that, for reasons they never ascertained, had simply stopped working correctly. I was eventually fitted with a pacemaker and continued to suffer from periodic bouts of shortness of breath — again something completely unfamiliar to me prior to taking Celebrex. I was released from hospital as an idiopathic case. The shortness of breath seems to be easing a little (perhaps helped by cycling?)but I am left with a pacemaker at a relatively early age. Proving that any of this is linked to Celebrex is difficult, but it is certainly a remarkable coincidence that all of this started (or was triggered) when I took the drug. Incidentally, three weeks in hospital fixed my neck!

PLEASE LET THE FDA HEAR YOUR STORY!- IT’S IMPORTANT..they are supposed to be reviewing celebtex in Feb 2005, I believe. Go to FDA.gov and enter a Medwatch report- it takes a few minutes but is a very important feedback tool provided by them. They want to know. If celebrex has 1/3 the risk of Voixx and if estimated Voixx deaths were 50,000, they think this is ok!- do the math. We need to step up and help those who would otherwise become injured or die while using this product.
Don // Dec 15, 2004 at 8:43 pm
I would like to bring your attention to the previous post, if we all file a Medwatch report it will be hard for them to ignore us. If you haven’t sent yours in yet, do it now. I just did, it is simple to do, and don’t cost you a penny!

AT LAST!- NOW THEY FINALLY BELIEVE US-
Pfizer finds increased heart risk with Celebrex
Pfizer Inc. says it has found an increased risk of heart problems with patients taking its painkiller Celebrex, a drug that is in the same class as the Vioxx, which was pulled from the market in September because of safety concerns.

My father had taken Celebrex for 8 months and had congestive heart failure, even though he never had any heart desease and had a complete physical checkup a year before with no heart problems. I had heard that Vioxx had the history of causing heart attacks and thought maybe Clebrex had something to do with his death, no my suspicions have come true.

i was put on celebrex 2 years ago by my doctor because the ibuprofen for my lower back was causing me severe reflux problems. i experienced a minor heart attack 8 months ago. Ever since I’ve taken celebrex, i have experienced palpitations and anxiety. The celebrex was my only new medication in the past 2 years and I think it has alot to do with my heart attack. I was doing everything else right just like the doctor told me. In fact, I even cut back my smoking to only a pack a day 8 months ago and cut my weight by 60 pounds down to 290lbs. My doctor told me i was doing everything right so can’t understand why i experienced my heart attack and palpitations. now I can’t even undergo therapy for my back. This celebrex has caused me to worry so much I think my blood is going up again. I’m really worried about having a stroke. How do i join the class action law suit?

I took Celebrex for a couple of years, and during the time I was taking the drug I had to wear a heart monitor twenty four hours for a about a week. I live in New York, is there a law suit?
Ray // Dec 18, 2004 at 9:41 am
Contact an attorney. They are reviewing cases. Be persistent and patient- they are quite busy with Voixx suits as well as celebrex.
Use search engines or check your local listings for them.

A Class Action Lawsuit seems likely after Pfizer’s bad news this week on Celebrex. I had taken Celebrex 200 mg. daily for over 3 years up until 9/6/04, when I had a massive heart attack. Age 53, few risk factors and no family history of heart problems. I live midway between Birmingham, AL and Atlanta, GA. Any tips on attorney(s) to contact??

My husband started having trouble brething and then started experiencing chest pain. He stopped taking Celebrex immediatly once he heard the news abot this medication possibly causing heart problem. He wnt to the Dr. this week and they discovered he has a floppy heart vlave which was not an apparnet problem before. His heart races and he sometimes cannot breathe. Is there something that can be done? He is now on a medication for his heart.

I took Celebrex for 4 months during 2001 for my tennis elbow. On October 2001 I waked up with abnormal heart palpitations and immediately was taken to the Hospital. I was confirmed with arrhythmia; spent 4 nights at the hospital, endure a procedure, to find nothing wrong with my heart. To this date 12/2005 my heart still beats abnormally and I occasionally feel shortness of breath. What are the chances of a class law suit? And what do I have to do, to be involved.

Beth says:
I have taken the drug called CELEBREX,about 5years ago and I was hospilized I really thought I was going to dye before I made it to the hospital . I started feeling real funny I can’t explain it, then I got real hot, my face started turning red, then I broke out in a rash all over I knew I was having a reaction was not but just a few minutes I started having chest pains thats when I really got scared.I made it to the E.R. I finally got alittle relief my doctor was on call and he knew what was happening to me. But honestly I don’t think he was telling me the truth about everything, he said it was a real bad reaction . I think Iit was more than that cause still till this day I can’t hold out to do much of anything without getting totally out of breath, and with my age like it is I am only 35 years old, I should not get so tired so easy. If you have any suggestions on what I should do please feel free to let me know I sure would appreciate it.
Thanks for listens to all of my problems may God bless you.

I have posted on this board as I too have suffered from celebrex poisoning but I managed to find some helpful information on herbal help for the heart.
My poisoning came about after 6 weeks on low dose celebrex so do not be fooled by the statement that the problems are only with large doses.
The drug companies are being legally ignorant and misleading. They know that it has to do with how an individual processes the drug internally and for many of us the level in the blood goes toxic very quickly. Maximum damage showed up about eight weeks after starting celebrex (2 weeks after stopping).
I’m not affiliated with any company or product and this should not be interpreted as medical advice, but I believe everybody needs to make up their own mind by looking at all the information.
I suffered horrible palpitations and sleep deprivation from something that felt like suffocation as I was drifting off. Those symptoms have just about gone after following a strict schedule on herbal supplements that are well-known as being heart-healthy.
It requires some discipline and a little money investment but I’ll be a fool twice if I’m ever going to trust a Pfizer drug to fix my condition (or any other designer drug).
Swansonvitamins.com have very reasonable prices and quality.
Anyway, please take a look at this article-

Wishing all my fellow-sufferers a speedy recovery.

My father has been disabled for almost 20 years due to a severe back injury. Since his injury, he has had trouble with his discs, leg nerves, etc. His doctor is constantly switching his pain and inflamatory medications because his body gets used to them after a while. About 5-6 years ago my father complained of chest pains and ended up going through a quad bypass. He has not had any heart problems since his bypass and has felt better except for his back and nerve problems. His doctor put him on Celebrex a year or so ago to help with his back problems and now his blood pressure is sky-high. They have put him on all types of blood pressure medicine and they only make him very lathargic and tired, so much that he can only be out and about for an hour or so. I am wondering if the celebrex is causing his blood vessels to restrict and causing his bp to soar. We live here in Ohio, but they are out in Arizona for the winter. The doctor there took him off of Celebrex today. Anyone with info?

My 89 year old grandmother, whom I’d never know to be sick a day in my life, died after taking Celebrex. Shortly after she began taking the medicine (for minor arthritis in her knees), she began to complain of stomach aches, had unexplainable bleeding, black stools & shortness of breath which eventually led to an irregular heartbeat, the installation of a pacemaker and her death. All this in a matter of 2-3 months. I was suspicious of her taking this medicine from the start. I know that she was old but I don’t believe her death was from natural causes. I know it was from Celebrex.

I was 46 yrs old.,with no serious medical problems. In May of 2003 I was given Celebrex. On July 7, 2003 I had a mild stroke. I had taken celebrex that night before going to sleep. Even now I have rapid heart beats and my blood pressure goes from high to low sometimes although it is ususally in normal ranges.
Where do I find information about this class action law suite?

My mother was taking Vioxx and then put on Celebrex. She had a massive heart attach last Saturday 6-25 in the emergency room. She then had another one at the hospital on 6-28 that took her life. Nothing could be done in time and I suspect this drug caused this. There has been no heart problems in our family history. Where is the lawsuits going with this???

I was on celebrex for a year and I’m allergic to sulfur. I would wake up numb from my neck to my feet. I ended up with asthma like symptoms, I also had sytemateic candida and etc. Yes there is a class action against.

Interested in others who might have noticed unusual weight gain, and had extreme difficulty losing the weight after taking celebrex. How long does it take to lose the weight after you’ve stopped taking celebrex? Definitely burning more calories than are consumed here..am convinced it’s celebrex though each doctor thinks it can’t be so. Frustrated!

I had problems related to osteoarthritis in my back after working as a waitress for over eighteen years at Disney. The prescription Celebrex made me have heart palpitations and caused the room to darken on more than one occasion. Soon after, I slipped in a puddle in the kitchen, contorting my spine down on a wooden tray jack and blacked out for a moment. The Disney doctors claim that according to xrays, my problems are from natural degenerative illness. This was in early 2003. When I had told my doctor about the heart palpitations, she merely suggested that I should take the Celebrex less often. However I suspected something was gravely wrong so I stopped taking Celebrex. Even now sometimes my heart flutters for no apparant reason. As recently as last week I reminded the doctor’s nurse that the Celebrex had caused me trouble with heart palpitations. She tried to write that I was allergic. I said, “No, I think that Celebrex causes these problems in most people that take it”.
She crossed out the word Celebrex from my chart entirely.

I am 30 years old. I was on Celebrex for 1 1/2 years due to arthritis. 2 months previous to starting I completed my first marathon and 5 triathalons. During treatment a heart murmor developed and I demonstrated a dramatic reduction of cardiovascular abilities. Now, 2 years later I developed bilateral blood clots in my veins. I am trying to determine what is happening.
