Pfizer Agrees to Pay $60M to Settle Rezulin Class-Action Lawsuit

Drug giant Pfizer Inc. has agreed to pay $60 million to settle a class-action lawsuit that accused the company of falsely marketing its diabetes drug Rezulin.
The lawsuit was brought on behalf of purchasers of Rezulin who live in Illinois. It sought a refund for all Rezulin tablets they had purchased.

Court Certifies Rezulin Class-Action Lawsuit

The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals approved certification of a Rezulin class-action lawsuit against Pfizer, reversing a lower court’s November 2001 decision. The ruling also orders the lawsuit returned to trial court for further proceedings as a class action.

Jury Orders Pfizer to Pay Damages for Rezulin

Pfizer was ordered to pay $2 million in compensatory damages to Concepcion Morgado who was injured after taking the recalled diabetes drug Rezulin. Pfizer faces thousands of lawsuits alleging that Warner-Lambert, which it acquired in June 2000, failed to inform the public of Rezulin’s dangerous side effects. Rezulin was supplied by Warner-Lambert.
